Straight Talk in NYC is a joke. HUGE waste of money. I have read online that in major metro areas because of the sheer concentration of Iphones on the At&T network. I wasted $50 to find this out.

While it didn't seem that Speedtest was blocked the BEST down speed I received was 560kb...And that was the best on full signal. I should also point out that only 1 bar was available in my basement.

Popped back in my tmobile card in my basement I am getting 5 bars with about a 7 down.

Moral is if you are in NYC metro don't bother with Straight Talk at this time. I suspect in the next year or so when the Iphone people upgrade to 4g LTE straight talk might be a nice play. But right now for $15 more Tmobile is it.

I am in Queens by the way.

I agree my experience with t-mobile in NYC Manhattan specifically has been great much to my surprise. I never had a chance to try ST on AT&T in NYC but I used it in Arizona and the data speed was not acceptable for me and moved back to t-mobile after 30 days.

I am in Paterson NJ using the Tmob ppd on my GNex and it works great, no complaints. Regularly get 3.5 - 4.0 kbps for $30 a month.

Doesn't Straight Talk give you the choice of either an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card? It did when I last looked into ST about three months ago.

Yeah thats right I forgot about that. I wonder if I can change that over to tmobile now? Gonna call but I already know the answer.

I'm hearing that they'll let you switch and keep the same account (although I didn't think this was possible at first). You'll have to pay $14.99 for another SIM though.

Yeah I figured it was gonna be something like that.

In NYC at&t is awful but Tmobile has a bad reputation. I suspect that the 4 Bil they got when the merger died has been used to beef up their NYC towers.
