Strange battery problem with latest update, or...?

My phone that I bought new in July 2015 bootlooped after the most recent update :-(. Thought if I made it this far, it might escape the scourge, but no! Read a few others had the same thing happen after the recent update...is there a connection?

Also, in trying to coax a backup out, I recharged the batteries to make sure that wasn't the reason for not getting past the LG screen. But strangely, the batteries seem to take FOREVER to recharge, using the LG stand alone charger. Is it my imagination, or did the update affect the batteries themselves? Did the bootloop itself do something to them? I always assumed batteries were "dumb" devices with no firmware in them, and therefore no way to become corrupted.

Most modern batteries do have some hardware in them to show levels and such. I have no idea if any firmware is involved.

I doubt that the updated software caused the bootloop.

What probably stressed the phone was the size of the download and the huge CPU usage in applying the update. When doing these updates, I lay my phone on a package of frozen vegetables to keep it cool during the update.

^ That's a good idea. I've just got my bootloop G4 to work again as I described in the big bootloop thread, and hardly dare use it. A packet of frozen vegetables attached permanently to the back of the phone might be the answer. :)

If you can get it to work long enough, back up everything and send it bak to LG. They fixed mine for free, even though the original warranty was expired. Total process was 10 days, though I used my own UPS Two Day shipping to get it to them faster than the week the pre-paid FedEX shipping would have taken.

Mine was a free phone from Mona. I've had it a little over two years. It wouldn't seem right to ask LG to fix a free phone at no charge. They might, but this phone has caused them enough trouble already and I don't like to add to that. It's been an outstandingly good device for those two years, and I've enjoyed using it. A manufacturing error was made and that lesson learned, I imagine.
But you're right, I've heard of many instances where out-of-warranty bootlooping G4s have been fixed by LG at no charge. :)

I got my phone for $100...not free, but fairly discounted, for signing a two year contract with Verizon.
It's up to you, but since it was a manufacture defect that caused a lot of people headaches, I wouldn't hesitate sending it in to get it fixed on them. I don't think a new Logic Board costs LG much for one phone, in the big scheme of things.
