Strange coloured dots sparkling around the home button

In the last few weeks I've noticed my V30 occasionally has a few coloured dots that intermittently show or flash around the home button for about a second.

Anyone else get it and know what it means? It's too fast to get a screenshot especially in this phone where screenshots seem to be a more cumbersome process than on most others!

I should have said that I'm on UK Vodafone, Android 8.0.0

When I click on my 'home' button, I get a different colored dot at the North, South, East, West positions around it... Then my Google Assistant (sub) window opens.

Clockwise from North: red, green, yellow, blue.

If you press and hold, the dots go horizontal and the Google assistant pops up.

I have that too. But I don't have Google assistant popping up because I disabled Google App.
No need for f...ing assistant.

Ah yes, thanks everyone. I can see them when I press it now, and when I press and hold although I also don't have it activated as it asks me if I want to turn the assistant on.

The random 'sparkling' of the coloured dots when you're looking at other pages, apps etc. is getting highly irritating though.
