Strange grey colouring on screen

Hi,

First post but a long time reader of these forums. I'm looking for help.

I just got a brand new pixel XL and after 3 days of use I'm starting to see a strange grey bar appear across the bottom of my screen in the evening. I've attached a screenshot to show the problem.

I've checked all settings I can think of to see if I've toggled something on by mistake but I can't see anything.

The only way I can clear the bar is by restarting the phone.

I've had multiple android phones including 3 different Nexus devices and I've never had this issue in the past.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

If Developer Options are enabled, always a good idea to temporarily disable them in a case like this.

The fact that it goes away upon reboot indicates that it is most likely caused by an app. Are you using a non-stock keyboard? Try disabling it. Other than that, do another reboot and then carefully test every app/game (especially the non-mainstream ones) that you have installed to see which one is triggering the grey bar.

thanks, I'll give that a go, I might also do a fresh install and add apps individually rather than from a backup.

interestingly, I woke my phone this morning and the grey bar is gone, I'm wondering if it's got anything to do with night light settings as this is the only seeing I don't recall seeing on my Nexus 5x

thanks for tip on checking app by app, turned out the problem related to an app called 'blue light filter pro', I guess it was conflicting with the night mode settings.
