Strange picture when recieving or sending

I hope this makes sense. Sometimes when I receive a picture sms the picture is not in full view, meaning the picture is smaller and it doesn't fill the whole screen and when i pinch to zoom they are distorted. It does this when I send someone else a picture too. When i hold it landscape view the picture is square in the middle of the screen. I'm using Go SMS.
