Stratosphere keypadproblem

Hello everyone! I finally got used to the keypad and its useful features, on my Samsung Stratosphere, but for a long time now, I've had numerous issues with the keypad {and these problems began after it became too late to exchange it for a new phone}. The biggest headache occurs when attempting to type any word that begins with a lowercase or uppercase "t". As soon as I try, the phone freezes, and the keypad disappears. If I try to touch the area I was typing in, I can get the keypad to reappear, however any other letter or word I type after this erases itself or a portion of the following word. I can use the slide-out keyboard, but once I slide it out, everything I typed previously disappears and I have to start over. Any suggestions please?

Also, the headset jack doesn't work with my earphones. Any suggestions?

Have you tried using a different on-screen keyboard? In any text-input area, tap and hold. This will bring up a menu that includes the item Input method. Tap that and see which keyboard is selected, such as Android, Samsung, or Swype. There should be more than one choice. Try selecting a different one and see if that fixes the problem. There might be another learning curve for the different keyboard, but it could be worth it.

Also, there are configurable settings for each of the on-screen keyboards. From the Home screen, do Menu > Settings > Language & keyboard. For each of the installed keyboards there should be a settings entry that you can tap to make adjustments.

How long have you had the phone? While you may be past the initial no questions asked return period, your phone may still be covered for a "Like New"; or otherwise known as a "refurbished" replacement depending on who you bought it through.

While a refurb is never my optimum choice for a replacement, I have had a few in the past, and it's usually a much better decision than living with a truly malfunctioning unit.

I've had the phone since February 2012. I've just put up with the various problems due to a hectic schedule and the fact that things started acting up after 30 days and I thought I had no options. I purchased it through Verizon Wireless. Thank you for the info.

I had similar lag issues with using the Samsung Keyboard so I switched to Perfect Keyboard Free from the Play Store and really like it, plus it has all the punctuation without switching screens like my old HTC.

acejavelin raises a good point: if none of the supplied keyboards works for you, there are others in the Play Store. I haven't tried Perfect Keyboard, but I did just install Smart Keyboard Pro (after experimenting with the free Trial version). It does a lot of things well.

Another app is GO Keyboard, which I used for a number of months. Recently, however, it began pushing ads to my notification bar, a very annoying practice, and I uninstalled it. At this point, I would not recommend it.
