Stuck between Tbolt and Droid Charge

I owned the Thunderbolt. While metal, there were far too many creaks and cracks (sounds) for my liking. The Charge is light weight from the plastic, but solid. I always had my phone in a case so the Thunderbolt's creaks didn't bother me too much. But the phones build quality isn't that much far apart.

If you have to make a choice on which phone to get don't let build quality be a deciding factor.

The thunderbolt's housing is plastic. well, save the kickstand...

ss of my phone usage today... still going strong!

tbh, I didn't mind the light feel of the fascinate when I had it (assuming it's the same as the charge). I also don't mind the weight of the tbolt. I don't really notice the weight difference unless I hold both of them at the same time. the wife noticed a difference right away tho, but her iphone is kind of heavy too.

I don't think you can go wrong with either phone at the moment. they both have their strengths and weaknesses. just figure out what's more important to you and if that's the strength for that phone, then that's the one you should go with.

I have them both and there is good and bad things with both phones, you just have to find what works for you! I have only had the DC for 2 days

The things about the TB that got to me was the battery life, not that is was short, because it was not always bad, some days (I had the extended battery) it would last me 12-20 hours with heavy use and other days it would last 6-8 hours with almost no use. That was crazy!!!

The sound on the video recorder was pretty low but I could live with it.

It randomly deleted contacts on my a couple times from the phone witch in turn deleted them from my google account online.....that was BAD! I cant have that happening.

I am sure I am going to find bugs with the charge and I know how samsung is with updates but I hope this will get me by until another 4G phone comes along that is better for me

And to the people who think they are going to break the phone just from holding it you need to stop holding the phone like it is a stress ball lol

Those who posted INSANE battery life on the Thunderbolt, like 11 hours with 45% battery life left, could you post if the following is true to get this kind of battery life on DAILY BASIS:

- 4G ON ALL THE TIME (hey, that's the reason I got the Thunderbolt - to get 4G!)
- Brightness between 25% (indoor) and 50-75% (outdoor) --> but indoor MORE than half of the time
- Exchange push - including mail, calendar with active communications (I received about 50 emails / day, plus replying to most of these)
- THREE (3) Gmail accounts with 15 minutes sync
- Google Talk ON all the time
- Casual usage (not for a long time or hours) - browsing, using apps like Yelp to look for restaurant, etc. - NO GAMES
- Occasional phone calls (about 30 minutes TOTAL)

The reason I am asking is because I use the phone actively, but NOT HEAVILY as shown above. Those are my normal activity and I had Blackberry, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 with the same usage as the above and the battery life on those devices were FAR BETTER than the Thunderbolt. I unplugged the phone at 7:30 AM and with those devices, I have about 45% by 6:00 PM. The Thunderbolt? Less than 20% by 2:00 PM.

But then, you guys are showing insane battery life with Thunderbolt, so I am wondering if you are using the phone actively like I do? If you don't, then of course you'll have good battery life.

My co-worker, who use have SIMILAR usage on his Droid Charge, get FAR FAR better battery life than my TB. The phone has about 50% +/- by 6:00 PM.

BTW, my TB settings are:
- DAS BAMF 1.6.3
- Imoseyon LeanKernel with InteractiveX Governor
- Stock battery

I exchanged the battery with Verizon store TWICE already, so I know it is NOT bad battery.

the extended battery made the TB look absolutely ridiculous, so I just got a second stock battery, and one of the chargers on ebay...with that...battery problems solved! (I have not been in 4G yet, but next update I should be)

Sense>all IMO

Use Battery Monitor Widget and log your current readings every minute. that way, you can see if/when you have a problem. i noticed, sometimes, my idle would be at 40ma solid. other times fluctuate but average around 125ma. occasionally stuck around 300ma too. i'm not talking about occasional spikes for syncing, but consistent power consumption...

I did and I noticed that my average reading is about 104mA to 120 mA MOST of the time, but there will be jumps to over 325mA once, then settle down back to normal. I reckon this is due to the background data such as email checking (Gmail), Exchange push, Google Talk and others such as weather checking (I use Palmary Weather and it checks once every 6 hoursi), as I mentioned above.

I am sure it's HTC internal Power Management that's messed up or something like that.. gotta be the hardware. I've done as much as I could to minimize power usage WITHOUT affecting me using the Thunderbolt as a SMARTPHONE (not as a computer though!), not using background data as much as I could. Heck, I don't even use Facebook or Twitter, but sometimes I just gave up and carry the extended battery.

So to the OP, keep this in mind. You can get the Thunderbolt from Verizon and tried it out for 14 days. If the battery life sucks, change to the Droid. Worst comes to worst is that BOTH devices have bad battery life, although I find that very unlikely for the Charge.

-my brightness is set at 33% all the time, it wasn't adjusting fast enough sometimes with the brightness or adjusting improperly at times so I just set it and unchecked automatic adjust.
-4G is on all the time, if I wanted 3G, I woulda stuck with my fascinate!
-I usually get/send about 30-50 txt messages a day
-I had maybe 15 min of phone calls yesterday since it was a holiday
-I was playing wwf throughout the day and also during a long car ride.
-I don't use exchange, but maybe that's why my battery life is better? I have gmail, yahoo and comcast all sent to my phone.

no doubt, your bb or iphone got better battery life. I charged my tour and bold every other day through heavy usage. my wife just started complaining that her 2 year old iphone can't last the 2 days she used to get (probably cuz her battery is starting to show signs of wear). my fascinate... a day and a half at best. My tbolt can last throughout the day on pretty decent usage.

100ma is not normal, 40ma is normal for me. Gps, bt, wifi off, but 4g on. Spikes are normal because that is when email or whatever is being pushed.100ma would last 14 hours assuming no spikes. You can try to play music from the stock player to see if idle drops, if it does, you can assume that there is a problem with the idle.

Wow. My battery is almost dead(pulled phone off charger @ 730) and beside getting on here and playing a couple Words, I have done close to nothing. Just called Verizon and try suggest I get an extended battery....Y so it feels like I have an OG Palm in my pocket? NO thx!

What he says..

I looked at both extensively before buying, I ended up with the Thunderbolt for a variety of reasons:

1. Build quality - night and day

2. Sense the lesser of the evils, could not take Samsung UI

3. The extra RAM

4. Battery life is acceptable for me since I am almost always near a charger.

-To be honest, I'm usually connect to wifi. The battery does MUCH better on wifi. I easily get 24+ hours of use on wifi. On a 4G connection, it varies, but I'm usually having to plug in after about 10-12 hours, but that number fluctuates wildly depending on use I have found. There have been days when I've unplugged it at 100%, had to use it heavily on 4G, and was almost drained after only 6 hours. Those instances are quite rare for me, however. *IF* you can connect to wifi, this will most likely give you the biggest increase in battery life. I hate to say it, because I love having 4G, but it is a battery hog.

- Brightness pretty much always at 25%

- No exchange push. Just one GMail account (personal, push using Gmail app) and a secondary (work email account -- IMAP push via K9 mail client). Calendar syncs only to Gmail.

- Google talk on all the time

- Tweetdeck on all the time, updates to 4 columns every 12 to 15 minutes.

- Fairly similar browsing and app usage it would seem

- Phone calls...maybe 30 mintues...per week. (I don't like the phone).

This past Saturday into Sunday, for example, I had my phone unplugged for 20 hours and plugged it in with ~45% battery remaining... Granted, I was asleep and not using it for about 7 of those hours, and was connected to wifi for a little over half of that time.

Today, being a pretty typical day, I just checked and I'm at 71% after being unplugged for 7 hours and 48 minutes.

- DasBAMF 1.6.3 NTE
- Using same kernel by Adrynalyne that comes with 1.6.3, using only "on demand" governor
- stock battery (I have 2...just in case)

Pretty sure you want stock results and not from a rooted phone, I honestly couldn't tell you what my stock battery life was for I rooted and flashed my phone as soon as I got home cuz I already did my research and didn't want to deal with the bloated sense and the battery life. I got the best battery performance on the leaked gingerbread rom, with heavy use as in using the internet(4g), texting, more internet, lots of calls, games and iono what else my phone is in my hands I swear every 20 minutes using and browsing the web and my phone would last up to 10 hours which is good for me. I get pretty good bat life on bamf 1.6.3 as well. Ive used both phones (had the charge for a week) along with my tbolt and I must say I felt like I could break the phone with my hands felt so cheap. The bolt also being plastic doesn't feel like it to be honest, but the tbolt all around feels like a much sexier, elegant device as where the charge feels like a toy phone you buy for your 8 year old to play with. The only things the charge has really is the screen and somewhat decent battery life but nothing to splooge about.
