I went to use my tablet one day and it was stuck on.

Stuck on " Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" Will only reboot, not turn off. Can't flash firmware!

What is going on with the tablet and how do I fix it?

You can't restart in download mode?

1. Locate the Power and Volume Down button on your Galaxy note 10.1
2. Now simultaneously place your two fingers on The Power Button and Volume Down button.
3. Press both the Power Button and Volume Down Button together and KEEP pressing them
4. Keep Pressing Both the Buttons until Your Screen becomes Black - Don't leave them
5. After the screen Becomes Black , keep holding the buttons for 1 sec and Download Mode will Pop Up. That is your queue to Leave the Power button and Volume Down button.
6. Then press Volume Up to get into download, or Volume Down to restart normally.

Once it's in download mode, run ODIN and flash the firmware.

(If you can't get it into download mode, the motherboard is probably bad - bring it into a repair shop to be sure.)

Rukbat, I'm having the same problem as the OP, but I've already gotten my tablet into download mode - multiple times. The problem is that even though it says it's downloading, I really don't think it is. I've let it sit in download mode for up to 4 days, and it just still says downloading. I don't even care about getting the tablet working again, just want desperately to find a way to get my pictures and S-note documents off it. I talked to Samsung on the phone, and once it was downloading they basically said to wait, there's nothing else they could do. Offered to send it in for repair, but they said they can't do it, it's too old. Can't take it to a Samsung experience store, don't live anywhere near one. What else can I try?

Download Mode doesn't mean your tablet is going to download something by itself.
Odin Mode or Download Mode is the state your tablet is ready to flash firmware, but you have to load firmware into Odin , then connect your tablet to PC via USB port. Once the device is detected, you can start Odin.

Turn on Download Mode and do nothing, your tablet will waiting for your action until the battery runs out.
Ask dianehelen, she sent her tablet to me twice to get fixed.
In order to troubleshoot properly, I have to physically access to it because I believe the battery connectors, both on mainboard and the battery itself have to be fixed.

I'm new to this site and obviously not looking to get scammed, but if you're legit and think you could get somewhere with this thing, I might take you up on it. It looks like you've helped a lot of people here, and I'd be crazy grateful if you could help me too. Before you had replied to my post, I had also PM'd you. Could you PM me back with info?

I helped some users here for free but the problem is they never post anything in here.
Take it or leave it. I don't get anything with a broken tablet if you think I am a scammer.
They did like you do in private message, that's why I did not reply your private message.
You can get help from repair shops but I don't think these guys know how to fix this tablet.
Trust me, in order to this tablet's problem , you need to understand the root cause.
You can send it to Samsung , they will give you a quote after evaluation. If it's too expensive, you can opt not to repair and return back to you. They might charge under $100 or just $65 if battery or battery connectors need to be fixed.
However, not even Samsung repair guys know how to fix this tablet properly.
I saw them fix problem by soldering battery directly to mainboard which is a dumb solution based on my opinion.





If the battery need to replace, it will be destroyed by the heat from solder iron. However, if you don't know if it's soldered directly to mainboard, try to take the battery out will break the battery connector from mainboard, you will end up to to replace the battery and mainboard

You should try the route of Samsung Authorized Repair Center to see how much they charge based on the evaluation of your tablet, you make the decision if it's worth the repair. However, they will erase everything if you don't give the instruction: " not erase my data ".
Don't try to send it to me because I see everyone seems to hesitate to trust a stranger on the internet.

I tried going thru Samsung, and they basically told me they can't do anything with it because it's old. Said they can't get parts for it. I'm really bummed. Like I said before, even if it won't work any more, I'd really like to try to salvage the pictures and S-note documents. I'm back in the "real world" now after going on vacation, so let me know if you have any other suggestions or might be willing to take a look at it.

To fix the problem, I have to have physical access to it. It can be fixed or not, depending the status of the mainboard and firmware. Sometime, the firmware has to be reflashed to fix the boot loop after fixing the hardware. Sometimes it will work fine after fixing hardware. I cannot guarantee your data can be saved.

At this point, it's a dust collector on a shelf and I haven't been able to come up with any other options for attempted repair. If you're willing to take a look, that's more than Samsung is offering. Very frustrating.
