Hello everyone,

I have been lurking around these forums for about 6 months now and have learned alot about rooting and romming my LG Optimus S but have never had a reson to post anything until now. let me preface by saying that I have tried searching through all the LG Optimus threads I have come to love and can not find mention of my issue.

I have 4 Optimus S phones in my house for my family and myself but mine is the only rooted and romed phone. I have tried ThundeROM (last 3 versions), Lego ROM v1 & v2 and also Scott Pilgrim Awesomeness and in each one I am regulated to not haveing any 3g data speed while the other 3 phone in my house do have 3g.

When I flash a new ROM I normally use Drellisdee's custom recovery; wipe all data then clear cache and delvik before flashing the ROM zips as per the individual Rom's instructions. Once I bring up the new Rom I see the 3G for a moment while it is trying to find my sd card then I get a message that it is trying to activate my phone via an OTA process and when that fails I lose my 3G and i am stuck with 1X. I have this issue with all 3 Roms i have listed above.

Currently on Scott Pilgrim Awesomeness CyanogenMod-7-04112011-NIGHTLY-thunderc-Xionia; I had upgraded to the VD radio as I tried ThundeRom V1.8.3 but currently my baseband shows unknown.

If anyone out there can advise if I have done anything wrong and or knows of anything i can do to get my 3G back i would greatly appreciate the help.

BTW I am at my wok with no way of connecting my phone to my PC and will not be able to answer intensive questions that would need a PC for about 3 1/2 hours. i can however answer any questions for which I can use my phone to provide.

First off, make sure your radio/baseband and the ROM are compatible. If your radio is V9, then you need V9 ROM. If your radio is VC/VD, then you need a VC/VD ROM. Assuming they are compatible...

Your NVRAM settings are not working with your ROMs either because they are corrupted or weren't migrated properly at some point in your ROM endeavors.

1) backup your important data
2) flash Xionia CWMA custom recovery (important or you will brick your phone)
3) perform ##786# reset from the phone dialer. You'll need your MSL from Sprint. Just call in to *tech support* and tell them your data wasn't working and Update Profile is giving you an error so you were told to do a ##786# but it is asking you to enter a code and you are stuck. They'll give you a 6 digit # which is your MSL
4) your phone will then reset all your NVRAM (and clear out your data)
5) when it is done, it'll boot into android just like you first got the phone and will proceed to do a hands-free activation which will populate your phone with provisioning info to make calls and get data.
6) restore your backups

I will definately try that once I am home in front of my PC but the only issue is i have tried many times to flash Xionia CWMA custom recovery but can not get ADB or the Terminal entrys to work correctly. This is one of the reasons why I have not rooted and Rom'ed my familys other 3 phones. I will try and work it out and see what i can get working.

Thank you SFHUB.

You can flash stock V9 recovery also, but it is more annoying to recover from an "unrooting" using stock V9 recovery.

So I got my MSL number from Sprint & flashed Xioina CWMA (finally figured out how to make ADB work) but when I tried the ##786# reset but nothing happened, to troubleshoot I tried the ##786# on my wife's phone and it gave me a menu after I entered the last # so it has to he something to do with my phone.

Since I couldn't apply the ##786# reset as suggested I used my new Xioina recovery and reflashed the Scott Pilgrim Rom & G-Apps and once rebooted the phone has had 3G stable for the better part of the day. I am happy with that little victory but wonder if I Should worry that I could not perform the##786# reset to NVRAM data. Am I in the clear or is there more I should do to insure clean Rom & Kernal flashes in the future?

Again thank you for your help in getting me this far.

If you are running the AOSP GB ROMs the pound codes won't work. If you want to do a full reset that way, you would need to be on a LG based ROM...

easier way might be to dial #*#*4636*#*# then go into phone information. in there, scroll down, and you can select what radio you want to use (make sure it's set to cdma-auto). If it already is, just turn off the radio and turn it back on.. Maybe this will work??

Sorry for the delay in responce, just started a new job and trainings been brutal. I'm running Windows 7 and found out my ADB issues was caused by user error and not having all the right drivers in place. I searched XDA and found an ADB for dummies, followed it and flashed the Xioina Recovery. And BTW still going strong with 3G even though Sprint TV doesn't recognize my phone as active.

Tried the #*#*4636*#*# and it did not bring up any menus. So far all is well so I guess I wonder what if any issues I'll run into if I don't fix my NVRAM?
