[Studio Energy] Can't remove app icons from home screen

I recently upgraded my BLU Studio Energy to lollipop. It added all of my app icons back to my home screen and I can't see a way to remove them. It looks like they intend for you to keep them all there since there is no other area to access your apps than the home screen. I hope I am just missing something because I will be very disappointed with my decision to upgrade if this is the case.

Android 9..
Just spent some time on this.. i tried a number of the other way others mentioned but some settings of mine weren't event the same as theirs..

we are all used to holding the icon Down and then dragging it to remove..

The correct *new way* is to hold the icon till it displays its options, let go of the icon, and then tap the selection you want.. itll delete..

Why they switched... who knows.. pass it on..

I did this on the LG G6:

Select the following setting:
Settings > Home screen > Select Home > Home with separate apps list

After you select this setting, the home screen will then give you a Remove trash can at the top when you long press.

OMG you did that!!!! Thanks alot. Good for you! That's the solution ! I just did it and it worked.

I was able to drag the main app icon to the trash, do the uninstall, fire up google play search for the app and install it - Google play actually says 'enable' the app - click enable and the extra icons are gone -

BTW, it appears there are two different kinds of icons - if an icon is touched and held, one of two things may happen -

One is a trash can will appear briefly at the top of the screen - the icon can continue to be held and dragged to the trash can to uninstall the app - releasing the icon, the icons will remain reduced in size and many will display a red "x" in the upper left corner of the icon - touching the red "x" will also offer to uninstall the app -

Two is no trash can appears - releasing the icon, the icons will remain reduced in size and many will display a red "x in the upper left corner of the icon - touching the red "x" will offer to uninstall the app -

My guess is that the icons that produce the trash can and remain with the red "x" are the 'main' icons - if there are multiple icons for the same app, duplicate icons will not offer to uninstall the app, nor did I see any way to merely delete the duplicate icon -
