When you make a backup in TWRP these are checked by Default:

* Boot
Cache
* Data
Recovery
* System
Android Secure
* Enable Compression
Generate MD5

Is it recommended to check any other?

I think this supports the consensus I've read, which is that generally speaking you just go with what's checked by default.
