Stupid 4G question

My Moto X has the 4G LTE indicator. Does it change to 3G or H or H+ if not on LTE?

Thanks, haven't seen anything but 4G LTE since I bought my Moto-X a month ago.

In my experience, being on HSPA+ results in a "4G" icon without the "LTE" on the side.
