Suck it up.. This phone is Magical (maybe)

Well said....smartphone not meant for dump people

The irony there is delicious.

I'm lurking. I'm an iPhone user (former as I just dumped ATT last week, much as they dumped many of my calls), and I'm definitely interested in switching. I'm studying all the posts here and other places, and furiously watching Youtube videos of what the phone can do. The only things holding me back are (1) Sprint service isn't the greatest either and (2) I'm waiting to see what tomorrow holds at the Apple announcement. I don't hold out much hope for being pleasantly surprised by Apple.

I think telling people that are fans of iTunes integration to just go away is an infantile response. I definitely understand why people use it and count on it. My wife takes her iPhone, plugs it into the computer and every bit of DRM music and movies and TV are immediately pushed to her phone, she disconnects it and moves on with her life. Simplicity is an incredibly strong selling point to the vast majority of phone users. This is why Apple's marketshare is 3 times that of Android and growing. Google needs to recognize that the vast majority of users want that simplicity and then give it to them along with all the freedom (just make it less obvious that they're free now...shhhhh, I wont tell if you dont). And judging by the advancements I've already seen in the Android OS, Google is well aware of it.

All its going to take for me to get my wife to switch is a few more must-haves like Google Nav/Telenav, which there probably are some of that I don't know about since I don't own an Android phone yet.:p

Here here!

I complained a few times about my Eris, but I have to admit, I love the hell out of it, and it's not running all the latest hardware like the Evo, and Incredible. Android+Sense UI+Customization+Evil Eris=Bliss (well as much as a phone can bring anyway.)

Great post! Over the past few weeks, I've listened to journalists and forum writers (usually coming from an iPhone) complain about the EVO & Incredible UI endlessly. Usually, the examples given reveal that he/she did not spend too much time adjusting to and figuring out the OS. It's always great to see people with an open, unbiased mind on the web nowadays.

Really, it's an internet thing. Ford vs Chevy, Mac vs PC, nVidia vs ATI, AMD vs Intel, etc, etc. It's been going on since the old dialup bulletin board days in the 80's.

I see no problem with good natured debating or backing "your team," but some people are just maniacal about it. They can't appreciate someone else's difference of opinion so these types of things usually degenerate into malicious attacks. Sad, really.

You might wanna read this article Fanboyism and Brand Loyalty
It explains the psychology of "fanboy-ism" extremely well.

Well Said !!

Let those iphone boys keep Lord Steve Jobs in the drivers seat and we'll take the wheel on android.

This is the best phone I've ever touched by far. Right now I'm typing this using ShapeWriter. No other phone makes typing this fun.

My palm pre looks like a joke compared to this beauty.
The ability to customize the phone just like you want it is crazy. On a palm pre or iPod touch I would never bother to type this much.
I also can't wait for Froyo. More speed and battery improvements... overkill, but definitely welcomed.

I feel like I'm one of the few people who doesn't think he has to "give it a chance" for once. The evo is stellar and I fell on love on day one. It met and exceeded almost all my expectation.

Give it a chance? I came from the Pre, and before that the iPhone, and all I can say is that the EVO blows them both out of the water. I love all the little custom Sense UI apps that HTC has built in to integrate social networks and such. And the screen! Perhaps the only thing I've even found on this phone that disappoints me is that it does not yet have full flash, but that will be coming soon enough :D

I would think that this forum is more along the lines of Tech support. Nobody wants to see a thread entitled "This phones sucks, going back to blah blah blah"
or any other generic complaining thread.

EXACTLY! Need a seperate place for the whiners. Every phone has its "issues". We do not live in a perfect world.

Great post! No phone will be for everyone and with the hype expectations can be high but if one is willing to learn they can truly find out if the phone is for them.

actually the version of flash that comes with the evo covers the grand mayority of flash content i have come across and displays them in flying colors... hell i even watched the Cotto fight last nite @ ustream in full flash with live chat as well as try out some nsfw sites to see the embedded videos play flawlessly within the browser, and to have the option to play full screen (ahem... sorry apple lol)

@OP thanx for the readup, it makes 100% sense (no pun intended lol)

I convinced two buddies of mine to also pick up the evo on launch day (one of them dumping att) and they fell in love with the evo instantly. I would have never had the confidence to suggest a touch pro 2 or a palm pre to them but the evo is almost the perfect device all around and anyone can appreciate the power, speed, and elegance of it.

Here here. Great post. Should be distributed to all new EVO buyers coming from a non-Sprint / non-android phone and mandatory to all iphone converters....

I find some embedded video just won't play smoothly. The sound is fine, but other than that the video is really choppy. Lower quality videos seem to play plenty well enough to watch even if they're not silky smooth. The good news is that Froyo will bring Flash 10.1 and smooth video.

Still, I haven't come cross anything that flat out wouldn't load, but did find a couple games that would load initially and then leave you with a blank window.

Does anyone know any specifics to what Flash Lite lacks over full Flash. All I can seem to find is that Flash Lite is optimized for mobile devices, not what it's missing.

Uh... no offense, but if you can't complain about something, then what exactly are forums for? :p
I am complaining about those complainers so I'm not sure I can rebuttal this :)

Good post; logically thought out.
Thanks!

Well said. Just give it a chance. Don't make a decision after two days to return it.
You got it!

Infantile? If you can't live without Itunes, you certainly shouldn't use a phone like this. There are many alternatives (such as Doubletwist) that do the tasks you mention. Simplicity at the expense of greater usability is not something I embrace regardless if the masses eat it up. I like that which is elite, not that which is common. I'm not sure about your immediate area and how it relates to Sprint's coverage but I travel quite a bit and never have issues with the Sprint Network-which generally puts AT&T to shame. You have 30-days to try Sprint and the EVO, I'm betting you're going to like it. However, maybe have the wife get one after you are experienced with yours.

This is a great post. glad it is from a fellow Phoenician!!
Thanks! Gotta love Phoenix

Too True.

You and me both! :)

Great post!! Sticky!!!
Haha, it might be a little too "chippy" to be a sticky.

OP killed it. A worthwhile read.
Well Said !!
Damn nice write up OP. Great job!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. This phone deserves more praise.

Been to Iphone, done the Pre. I'm loving THE EVO. No Pre does not have a better display. No Iphone is not easier to use.
