Super Charging...

Hi All.

Am I correct in thinking that only the official Huawei charger and cable support 'supercharging'?

I purchased a 3m 'Anker' USB-C cable from Amazon to charge my P20 Pro in my car... but even plugging this cable into the official charger doesn't allow supercharging.

If the charger/cable doesn't support supercharging... does it fall back to 'quick charging'? Or does it drop back to standard charging? It doesn't say anything on the screen to give any clues...

Cheers
Nick

I think he's asking if the Huawei version of Quickcharge aka Supercharge is unique to the cable provided.

It's normally the plug that enables quick/dash not the cable, but as stated in the OP a 3rd party cable in the official charger is not providing super charge.

I cant answer as I'm not sure how Super charging works compared to the others

For supercharging you need both specified cable AND charger. Change either of those and you revert to normal rate charging.

When the phone is supercharging there will be 2 lightening bolts in the battery symbol in the status bar. 1 lightening bolt when normal rate charging. It will also say "Supercharging" on the animation when you plug in the charger.

It's quite similar to Dash Charge from OnePlus, which needs the combination of Charger and cable provided by OnePlus. 3rd party cables only allows normal charging

Thanks all. This is as I thought.

Am I also correct in thinking that the USB-C connector is based on the USB 3.1 standard for my P20 Pro? And if so, does USB 3.1 provide faster charging than USB 3.0?

Basically... my previous phone (S7 Edge) was very slow to charge in 'standard' mode... and I don't want to go back to that!! There isn't an official USB cable for the P20 which is 3m long unfortunately...

I use my Pixel 2 XL's charger on my P20 Pro and it provides it with fast charging.
