The phone was activated and within the same hour, the update applied itself automatically. I didn't get a chance to do much before it was too late.
I don't know why I got the experience that I did with the update. I even factory reset BOTH phones, and started fresh when the connectivity issues kicked in, but nothing changed.
Ultimately, maybe I'm not meant to be with Verizon, who knows? I mean, I always got great phone reception with Sprint - it was data that was patchy. That's why I switched. But so far, with Verizon (and the phones), I couldn't even make a call. It was like that commercial, "Can you hear me now?"
I don't think anyone in my office has a 4G phone. A couple have the iPhone 4S and they're fine - but that's 3G. Plus, they both sit on the other side of the building, so who knows - maybe reception is better there (clearly, right?).
In my office, I always received phone calls on Sprint - especially on the Blackberry; I guess same with the iPhone 4S. But of late, I was having issues with the data reception, which is why I switched to Verizon. And for the past two days, I haven't been able to make calls OR get data reception.
I have the Razr Maxx now. This will be the last time I'll try Verizon out. I can only hope for the best, but we'll see how it goes tomorrow.
