I wanted a "return" (enter) key in my stock text app on my VZW Droid Maxx 1080M KitKat 4.4.4. I installed Swiftkey and it had no return key but it installed a bunch of garbage that I still cant get rid of after uninstalling it. I really dont care about having an enter key in the text app now. The phone constantly interrupts me with "what was that you said, I didnt quite catch that" or something similar, its listening and responding to all sound around the phone, voice texting is gone, it rearranged the shortcuts I had on my home page, the time and temp on the home page is gone and more. Can someone tell me how to return the phone back to its former self?

Thanks!

Moved to the Droid maxx forum. I have used Swiftkey and never had such problems granted on a different phone. Have you tried a factory data reset?

To get the enter key back where it should be — on top of the emoji — you need to go to the SwiftKey settings. You can get to them either from the SwiftKey app icon in your app drawer, or by long pressing the little SK logo on the keyboard itself. (Usually under the 123 button.)

From there, go to Layout, and select "Enter key - always long press for emoji"

I don't think SK is what rearranged your home screen, though. That's just not what it does.

Swiftkey also doesn't prompt you for voice input unless you hit the voice input key, which looks like a small microphone (and which you can also disable in the Swiftkey settings).

But, if you don't like it, uninstall it. Go onto the play store, tap the menu upper left, tap my apps, find Swiftkey and tap it and then tap uninstall.

Never heard of SwiftKey making such a mess, and I think you should look for another culprit.

Some messages apps can change the action and icon for the enter key. It could be "return" or "send message". Look for that kind of setting in your messages app settings (not in the keyboard).

Thanks for all the quick replies. SwiftKey is history, the very first thing i did was uninstall it. A 'return' key is not an issue anymore. The changes to the phone post SwiftKey installation are what I am trying to fix now. What is listening to ambient noises and then asking me to repeat them? Could this be part of Now Cards? The SwiftKey installation may have turned on Now Cards. Does that make any sense?

It could be that when you changed the settings to activate voice actions you set Google Now as your launcher. You can switch if off from your settings - home or from the Google app settings.

From home, go into settings / touchless control and toggle it off. That would be the first place to look on the Maxx.

The second is Google now. Open the app drawer, then Google settings, tap search & now, then voice, then OK Google detection, and turn off "from any screen" (or all of them if you don't need it.) I am 99%+ sure that one or both of these will stop the voice prompt.

If you still want touchless controls, you can toggle them back on and the retrain using your voice. Follow the instructions on the screen, particularly the part about saying "ok Google now" . Many people try to simplify the phrase but on the 2013 Droids that can lead to false activation of touchless controls.

Good luck, I hope that works for you. I do know also with nearly 100% certainty that Swiftkey had nothing to do with rearranging icons on your home screen...
