Swipe Gestures and Recent Apps

I often used to double tap the square recent apps button on previous Android versions to jump quickly back and forth between my last used apps. I found it especially handy when looking at an email and quickly jumping into my calendar and then back into my email. Is there a simple solution for this using the new swipe gesture system? Or do I have to swipe up and find the app.
