Swiping to the side instead of up all of a sudden?

Woke up this morning and all of a sudden my Pixel 3XL is back to having the 3 icons/buttons at the bottom instead of just two, and instead of being able to swipe up to get to my recently used apps, I have to press the square button.

Last night when I went to sleep, it was fine. Was there an update that somehow automatically loaded in my phone as it usually asks me before updating?

Having a lot of quirky issues recently with this thing (lots of choppiness with apps).

Anyhow, curious how this would change on its own, and how to change it back!

make sure you dont have a setting in accessibility on..

Nothing that I see that would cause it. In Accessibility, I do have Nova Launcher on, but tried swithcing it off, same thing with the side swipe (and have had Nova on for a while). Also have auto rotate screen on.

But I don't seen the swipe up vs side option anywhere.

OP, when you restart the phone does it still appear with the 3 button UI? The gesture system IS for sure the default, so there isn't a way to toggle that setting in the Pixel 3 series.

Well, I did a hard reset on the phone by holdig the power until it shut off and turned back on, swipe up is back now.

What's odd is that if there isn't a way to toggle the setting or go back to a side swipe .... how the heck did it happen? Pretty sure I had it happen several weeks ago as well, but don't recall how I got it back as I think it just seems to randomly switch!

If you can find a way to 'enable' that configuration again you'd probably make alot of Pixel 3 owners happy; I remember reading that there were lots of folks unhappy that they were locked into the new Gesture UI.

I think you'll be waking up at 5:35...until you look in the Notification Log or boot into Safe mode.

Hmmm.. Happened yet again.

Seems to happen when I'm logged into my phone using a secondary account. Typically while swiping away clash of clans,mind u it is the only game I play occasionally on my phone using that account.

Strangley hard to go back to the side swipe and apps button vs the up swipe.
