Switch from Sprint to Verizon?

Some people compare the signal strength levels in the android system menu, however there is debate on if this number is accurate.

One of the simplest ways to determine this is to go to an area where cell signal is weak and see what phones drop. It may not be the most scientific test, but I found the phones that drop have problems and the phones that don't, well don't.

I've based my statements on personal experience. I've went through many phones in a short amount of time and found Motorola to definitely have the strongest cell radio and Samsung to definitely have the weakest. HTC varies based on model, I was happy with the EVO and unhappy with the E3D.

I am very sensitive to signal strength and call reliability. I really hope Motorola announced a successor on Sprint soon. (Or the EVO LTE is excellent)

Agree that Motorola has the strongest radios, Samsung is indeed the weakest.

If you are looking to save money, Sprint is great. Not the best network but can usually get the job done. Hopefully better now that they realized after a year their network sucks.

If you can afford it, Verizon obviously has the better network, it just comes at a premium price.

Different strokes for different folks.

Your dropped call issue will go away if you purchase a phone with a stronger cell radio. I have never dropped a call with my Moto. Samsung, a different story. (Also, The E3D has a weak radio.)

I dropped 1 call with my moto... While talking on it for 8 hours of a ten hour drive... This past weekend, and in defense, I was in BFE...

Sprint will have Orange County covered with LTE by the end of 2012.

Not that big of a wait.

8-9 months in the mobile phone world is long, esp since Sprint 3G has been **** lately. And after their spotty WiMax coverage, I'm skeptical my area will even be covered by LTE. Like I said, wait for the possibility of coverage, or switch and get definite full bars coverage.

Post ur bill if ur on Verizon and Ill post mine. I'm sure it won't even be close. Lol

So based on this you're telling everyone that you still use dial up at home for your internet connection? Its clearly cheaper...if you want a quality network and usable speeds Sprint is most likely not the best choice. I'm hoping this changes in the next 24-36 months though.

I get a 22% discount on Verizon. $162 after taxes for 2 lines. 10 gigs on one line and 4 gigs on the other. Unlimited text, 700 minutes. Extended Verizon warranty on my GN.

I would say that is not bad for a Network that is obviously light years ahead of Sprint.

Sprint's shared plan with 2 smart phones comes to $149 before taxes. With my discount on Verizon it is obviously worth it to me.

You need to look carefully at what you need. While Verizon doesn't have unlimited mobile-mobile (any carrier) they do have unlimited on their network and I have found about half my calls (including everything to the spouse) is unlimited. Also, while I am lucky to have a grandfathered unlimited plan I don't think it will be forever (look at ATT - LTE until you reach a cap (3-5 GB) and then you're back on HSPA+ 3G. In addition, depending on what plan you get (I think it starts at 1400 minute family plan) you can get Friends/Family unlimited for 10 designated numbers (which you can change monthly - easy to do online). I would wait until a double data promotion (4 GB is really not bad) and I would also think about do you always need LTE (both for battery life concerns and amount of data). I am a huge baseball fan and just started streaming most baseball games via 3G (don't have LTE yet) - quality is fine, only using about 1.5 GB a month of mobile data. I just let my phone manage the 3G-WiFi transition. You cannot beat Verizon for phone coverage, their customer service (FOR ME and my Wife) has been excellent, 3G is slow (1 Mbit) but reliable, and you can't beat their LTE coverage (supposed to basically entire country by next 12-18 months). I've been with them for 10 years, probably won't ever leave unless someone beats their coverage (I travel A LOT for business, 12-16 days/month, and my colleagues always have worse connections (ATT, TMo, or Sprint) than I do. You get what you pay for. Verizon charges a premium (although not as much as it used to) for a premium service and they are not going to lower prices. It's up to you to decide if it's worth the price. I will say make sure you check with all your affiliate groups (work, leisure, shopping) for discounts on Verizon (I have a work related discount that gets me 20% off). Good shopping - you won't be disappointed with Verizon coverage/service, they may be slow getting some of the latest greatest (although last holiday season they had the Three Newest phones - Razr, Rezound, GNex) but otherwise can't beat them for quality of service (except in some very rare rural areas).

Some good points in there and if Sprint ever wants to report profits in a qtr, they will surely need to raise prices. Loosing between 250M and 1B a qtr is not going to cut it. Once they get there network into a usable 4G state you will see price increases and I am sure tiered data. Verizon's double data is what really made it worth it for me to make the jump. Without it I would have stuck it out with Sprint but getting 10gigs for $39 after my discount is the same to me as having unlimited data on Sprint. I have never even come close to using that much data and 4gigs for the wife is way more then she needs. She doesn't even break a gig a month. Last month she wasn't even above 500mb. Don't then she ever broke a gig while on Sprint. I averaged 3 gigs a month while on Sprint...

How much longer can Sprint afford to lose that much money? I do not understand how a company can even stay in business losing that much money. Would love to hear someone explain how it is even possible. After hearing about there last earnings report, I was like WTF, seriously!
