Switch on lock screen for notifications

Is there a way for the screen to switch on when notificationns are received. When I get email, text etc I get the sound notification but the screen stays off. Would like the screen to turn on for a brief period so I could glance at it before having to press the home button to activate

You would have to use something like dynamic notifications from the play store
