Switched from the Galaxy Note 4, now have Nexus 6, My thoughts

I think the real battery comparison will be when the Note 4 gets lollipop. It's not really fair to compare the phones while they are running different versions of android.

Agreed, and BTW my nexus battery is improving dramatically after 5.0.1

My battery life has been pretty meh. Sort of surprised by it and that's the one reason I'm thinking of returning this and picking up a note 4. But then some are saying their note battery isn't that great either. Sigh what's a girl to do!

Spend less time on your phone and go hang with the girls!? IDK lol! I think you have to take other things into consideration if the batteries are a draw...S pen, brighter display, touch wiz.. Vs ... No more waiting for updates, vanilla smooth android, front firing speakers, the bigger screen and wireless charging! Just food for thought!

JUST MAYBE YOU HAVE UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. Battery life on the Note 4 is 53 minutes more than the Nexus 6 according to very credible battery test performed by Phone Arena. I have made 24 hours using this thing what more do you want.....really. I have navigated streamed, 5 minutes of Netflix to test the display, played hours of music stored on the phone and talked over 4 hours, and numerous text. The phone is taken off the charger at 5:30, and at 10:30 at night shows 5-6 hours of battery life left. I wake up at 7 the next morning and it still says 5-6 hours approximate battery life.

I think most people will get more than their money's worth, and the rest are reaching for more than there is out there minus the Note 4's extra 53 minutes.

Sheesh you don't have to all caps me. I don't think my expectations are unrealistic. It's a large phone with a big battery and taking some getting used to coming from the battery life on the one plus one. I knew it wouldn't be as good as that, just was expecting it to be a bit better.

It's a large phone with a large screen, and for the size 53 minutes less battery time than the Note is pretty good. You may want to delve into how things work technically rather than to equate bigger means more. I can give a 4 year old a tall glass of water in a 5"x2" glass, or a 3x2 glass, and 99% will probably take the taller glass. That said bigger does not always equal more. The bigger screen size equates to more battery power being drained, and 7 hours 53 minutes vs 8 hours 50 minutes in a smaller screen is pretty good.

If you always have your screen on with any phone you will not get a ton of battery life. The fact that I can play 9 hours of music daily and talk for over 5 hours, and still have battery enough for anothr 5-6 hours after the phone has been off of the charger for 18 hours is more than enough time for most people realisticly. I ave full brightness, no adaptive brightness, GPS, No NFC, No cloud print, no auto wi-fi, and no LTE on.
I think that a more methodical logical approach should be used when addressing how things really workthats it in a nutshell.

Man oh man I'm sorry I brought it up. I was trying to make light of a first world issue which is trying to decide between two great phones. We all have to decide what works best for us and if the battery isn't good enough for my use then I won't keep it. Anyway I don't want to derail the topic too much, for now I'm keeping the nexus 6.

Some people get way too uptight about these things... LOL

All I was tryimg to do was to objectively help inject real world usage and facts into your thinking. How you interact and use your phone is your business as is the choice to keep it or not, If 53 more minutes of battery means more to you then go for the Note. In my real world usage I have yet to kill my battery after a day of vigorous use that is usually 15-18hours. This is not an anextdotal praise or pie in the sky applications. Real world battery test of a 6" screen vs a 5.5" screen must be lookd at logically in my opinion.

Now tell me whats uptight about trying to offer scientific facts to help people make a decision.....really.

I drag race and can tell you that 2 engines of the same size and displacement in cars of different weight will have faster, and slower times based on body weight. The same applies here is all that I am trying to convey.

Not many features but to me that's not what the Nexus is about. The pure stocked android that is the best

When it comes to battery life on the Nexus 6. It last all day with reg use. I get home with at least 30% every night. This phone is the smoothest device I've ever used. First phone I can say, I could use for 2 years without having an itch to get a new one. Love it

I might have missed it while skim-reading the thread, but when using stock camera did you try using hdr+? It boosts quality by a lot. I do not have comparision between note 4 and n6 camera but I did have s5 (which should have cam similar to note4) and my n6 beats the crap out of s5 when it comes for focus reliability, low light situations and photo sharpness.

When you download manual cam or fv-5 cam to your nexus you will suddenly notice there is a world of manual options available for your camera (like shutter speed, focus and raw photo saving) which is not available in any samsung phone yet.

I'd have said the same for the Nexus 5 but for the lackluster camera and insufficient battery (usually dead by the time I'd get home from work if not charged during the day). Even now, it's completely lag-free with everything I've thrown at it, and remains a great size.

That stated, the Nexus 6 is my 98% ideal phone, with nothing of real importance lacking. The old saying is "never say never," but I'll say that I highly doubt another phone will be released in the next 2 years that's a 'must-buy' for me. The other 2% is basically fluff I'd like to have, but don't really need or miss (IR blaster... removable storage... laser pointer...64bit processor... wall projector... pool cue scuffer/chalker... dual-boot to Windows 8.1... espresso grinder... air compressor... and so forth).

Thanks for your thoughts! So is the battery life actually worse than the Note 4? They both have the same size battery, as well as QHD screens, so I would expect them to be about the same.

Do you have Ambient Display turned on? Maybe that sucks some battery as well.

I had the Note Edge before the Nexus 6 and the battery is about the same. Maybe slightly less. The phone clearly rocks over the Note Edge though.
