I am getting rid of the installments, and want to pick one of these two phones. I owned the Note 8 briefly before the X came out, and liked it a lot. It was a bit tall IMHO, but I could deal with it. I am going to pick them up second hand, so it's paid off. What would be your recommendations and why? I'll have to figure out how to get my photos into my MAC photos easily, that would be my only issue by going back. I just can not justify the X costs for a small screen and being limited on what I can do vs Android phones.

Note 8

or

V30

It depends on what you value most in a phone. I have both. For me, on paper and when I try to think through which one is better, the Note 8 wins. I use the V30. The size is great and battery life is really good. It is fast and does everything I want pretty well. The screen is not as good as the Note 8, it obviously does not have the S pen and the Samsung apps. I do not use the pen or many of the Samsung apps. I am not a huge camera buff, either. I use my phone for business, primarily. I have zero issues with the V30 and I honestly planned to dislike it. My prior experience with LG has been very poor. I use Nova and very few of the LG apps (only the dialer, calendar and text apps). Otherwise, I use third-party apps (like BB Hub for email).

They are both good and it really comes down to what matters most to you in a phone.

When I had the Note 8, I only used the spen a few times, but honestly, I can live without it. I am concerned about the screen on it though as I heard many complain. The V30 does seem to be a great phone. I know I'd be comfortable with the Note 8 since I had it, would I be with the V30? I like that the V30 is more wide than tall too. Plus the V30 is a bit cheaper on Swappa when one shows up.

Decisions....

I chose the v30 basically because I didn't like strange tall form factor of the new Samsungs.

Battery life is the best I've ever seen. I'm done even looking at the battery meter it's never below mid 60's, and the DAC is incredible, and the wide form factor is exactly what I had hoped the newer Samsungs Would have. The phone feels very premium and the lighter weight feels actually just right. It's a kick *** phone in what it does well.

But, this camera sucks imo. I know I can get into the manual mode, but I miss the effortless automatic stunning photos I could take with Samsung.

Split screen is something I use to use a lot on Samsung. I'd watch a YouTube review of an audio component while searching it on amazon or reading about it elsewhere. On v30 though, as far as i know, you can only choose split screen apps from the ones you already had open.

It is a mistake to think the screen is anything to worry about on the v30+.
Yes, the Samsung screen is ludicrously good and saturated.

The v30 is less saturated but I've noticed better detail on youtube vids, websites and streaming apps using the v30 than on my Galaxy s6 edge and s4. Maybe the Note 8 is better but the v30 screen is marvelous. I actually prefer less saturation now.

Thanks for the responses! I just picked up the note 8 with everything including google mini, and wireless Samsung dock, for $620. I think that’s a pretty good deal!

Good move. I was checking out phones at the AT&T store yesterday, and those Samsung screens just can't be beat.
