Switching between backed-up ROMS

I'm a new rooter. Just rooted Droid X and flashed MIUI and then Liberty ROMS without blowing anything up. Saved each in recovery mode. Now, I want to flash back to my saved MIUI ROM. How do I do this--via "restore" command in recovery mode? Or do I reinstall from the .zip like I did the first time?

I think I like MIUI best.

If you have made nandroid backups of your roms, then you will be just fine. Go into backup and restore, then select restore, and then select whichever rom backup you would like to use. You shouldn't have any problems assuming all the roms you have backed up are on the same kernel.

I'm not sure if you have to, but I would also do the customary wipe data/wipe cache/wipe Dalvik just to make sure nothing goes wrong during the restore.

If you're in the mood to check out others give Vortex a try

Long time rooter, 1st time ROM flasher.

Question: What does restoring from a backup do anyway? What I mean is, what does it restore? (Apps...Settings...App data?) Does it restore everything EXACTLY like it was @ that save point?

From what I remember about the last time I restored a backup, it restores everything just like it was before including app data and even remembering where app shortcuts were on the home screens.

It seems to me that a backup of a rom is like a picture, and when you restore it everything is there exactly like it was originally.

I tried Vortex and am running it now. It is similar to Liberty with slightly fewer mod options. Runs at least as well as other ROMS I've tried, Shuji, Liberty, MIUI, and maybe slightly better.

I like MIUI but had a few problems with widgets. For example, couldn't get Circle Battery to seat on any page and had trouble getting certain widgets on home screens. Otherwise, custom options are super.

As for switching between, I've made backups of the above ROMS and gone back and forth flawlessly. I just wipe data, caches, dalvik and restore from backup.

With Nandroid backups there's no issues going between GB ROM's and 2nd InIt ROM's? Iv'e been avoiding CM and EncounterICS due to the camera and battery life but I would really like to play around with some ICS on the X for a bit.

Just don't use ClockworkMod once you're in a 2nd InIt ROM right?
