Switching daily from Droid to Blackberry

Ok, this might be a dumb question but what I would like to do is use my blackberry for work and the Droid X for when I am off from work. Due to the environment that I work in, I have to keep the Droid in a box and away from me because I don't want to damage it. I build monuments and sand gets everywhere, and I mean everywhere. I really don't care if the blackberry gets ruined eventually, sorry blackberry.
So, when using OTA to activate and deactivate each phone, will I have to go through the whole set up thing on the phones every time? Will I lose apps that I have downloaded to the phones when activating and de-activating? Anyone have a better idea. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

You shouldn't lose apps or anything, you'll just have your calls,txts, and voicemails split between your two devices.

Can't you simply buy a high quality case and screen protector for your Droid?

I do have a screen protector. I have a case in the truck that I put the phone in while working on monuments, but, like I said sand gets everywbere.
