Switching from CM10 to CM11

Hello I have looked and was unable to find a thread with this if its out there then I'm sorry for starting another thread. I want to update my GS3 to CM11 and needed step by step direction. If anyone can direct me to the right direction also how can i back up all my stuff.

ok just got it to CM11 and now my contacts wont sync. What can I do?

Someone help I need to get my contracts back. I went to settings > accounts > Google > the email I had synced and there is no contacts.

Please help.

Are you sure you backed up your contacts on your google account? Because they should sync automatically. That's what happened when I upgraded my S3.
