Switching to Android after 9 years on windows phone. What should I expect? Tips?

Thanks Laura, we got the OneDrive app setup to our liking. Next thing on the list is to find a calendar that will show the next days events in a simple to read format/widget. Hoping to find something similar to how the calendar live tile was on windows phone.

Intently switched after 4 years on WP to Galaxy Note 5. Check out the Outlook App. It has an agenda widget

well that sucks about her not being so integrated but thats what i read online in reference to it as well. will be waiting for updates.

GracielaBA,

This is actually my only sole reason for still sticking with Windows Phone at the moment. The Cortana integration into the OS is great! I love that whenever I'm driving, if I get a text, Cortana comes in over the speakers via Bluetooth and announces I have a text and who it's from, and if I want to read or ignore it. Then once I have her read it, she asks if I want to reply, and then dictates back everything I said for approval before sending. The hands-free Bluetooth integration of Cortana is second to none-from what I've heard and experienced so far.

I use my phone as a phone first and foremost and this feature while driving (or even while working out at the gym hands-free via bluetooth earphones is close to impossible for me to give up at this point.

I've searched hi & low but haven't found an Android solution that comes close yet. My question to the community is, am I missing something or is there an app (or apps) that duplicate this functionality even relatively close? I've heard the Moto Assist / Moto Voice apps built into Moto phones can come close... is that true? But I've also heard they are getting rid of those apps with Marshmallow.

If I could get this functionality on Android, I'd make the full switch, so any and all help is truly appreciated. NOTE: I'm on Verizon right now and can't switch, so I'm using a Samsung ATIV SE Windows phone as my daily driver and a Note 4 as a backup Phablet device when I need to access apps I may not have on WM... which is only about a handful.)

I'd be interested in switching if someone could help with the hands-free bluetooth functionality.

There are some Bluetooth headsets that do this, including Android Auto w/bluetooth and if you get an Android Wear device, you can also reply with voice very easily. Other than this one feature, Google Now is equal to or better than Cortana in my experience, also switching from WP to Android.

Ultimately, if you're willing to go to some lengths, you can probably create exactly this interaction with a rooted Nexus 6P with Tasker (see xda). But bluetooth headsets are cheaper.

At the end of the day though WP 10 is simply not even close to ready for primetime, and MS should not have released the 950 and 950XL. A number of online retailers refuse to sell it any more. At the same time, the app gap has gotten worse, not better. That may change over the next year due to the universal apps, but it's difficult to say for sure.

Just saw a review of the Moto X Pure Edition, and it has exactly the text messaging feature you're looking for.

I have also only ever had Windows mobile or Windows phone, but the past year I have been trying to decide whether I was going to switch to android or ios. I should be getting my galaxy s6 active within the next few days. I am excited about it, but hope i can adjust to the smaller screen, been using a 1520. This thread had been helpful, thanks!

I just switched back over to android after 4 years on WP also. I use the NEXT lockscreen, and it tells me what appointments are coming up. I like that. Still trying to figure out a lot of other stuff, but so far, that's one thing I found I liked. I already miss the integration that WP has :/ But, I do LOVE that I can now find apps for EVERTHING I couldn't over the past 4 years! :D

BTW - I've started playing with Microsoft's Next Lock Screen app and this widget that looks a lot like the calendar (sorry, I can't post links yet but it's called Calendar Widget in Google Play)
