So, I've been an iPhone user for many years. I really want the note 3, but the switch coming in October has me very nervous. I don't know much about android and the battle between droid/apple has my head spinning. Just looking for advice/tips to make this change easier for me.

Omg, been waiting for someone to talk about this...I too am going through the same situation. I've been an iPhone user since day 1. I've already preordered my Note 3 and am anxiously waiting to switch. I just hope I can figure everything out

Welcome to the forums!
The video is a good one. Dated yes, but still good on most points. I think the biggest thing to say about the switch is don't compare the two OS. They operate in different ways.

Ha, I know how you feel. I was a blackberry user before iPhone. I hate how apple makes me feel trapped, I almost feel like I'm committing a crime leaving them. My heart is telling me run, but my head is telling me otherwise. So this is going to be a tough change. Watch the video that was posted in my comments, made me feel a little better

Thank you!! I would assume since the video is dated, android has even more to offer now. I'm very excited, but still nervous. I think once it's in my hands, I'll be fine. Of course any questions that come up, I'll get all the help I need here.

I have used many different OS's and have had iOS and Android devices at the same time. Really there isn't are some things you will find easier to use, some that may take a small amount of getting used to, but ultimately within hours you will feel right at home. I would suggest hitting up YouTube and watching unboxing or review videos' of the GN2, or GS4 to get acquainted with Samsung's UI.

I love threads like these.

I am a hardcore Apple fanatic. Own an iMac, iPad, Macbook Pro. Was an owner of every singe iPhone ever issued up until #4.

When Apple was ready to Announce iPhone 5, many of us thought the phone would be revolutionary. Many wanted a larger screen. When Apple revealed the same tired old phone, it pissed a lot of people off and I thing that is when the migration began for many Apple users over to Android.

I have been an Android user for the past year. I own the Note II and will be upgrading to the Note III on release day.

My thoughts...and I am being as honest as I can even if it pisses off hardcore Android owners who reside here....

As you guessed by now, the reason I came over to Android was because of screen size. As long as Apple keeps making tiny little phones that are hard to read I am never going back. Once you start using a phone with a larger screen you won't want to go back either. The extra screen real estate makes all the difference in the world. I enjoy the fact that I can actually read instead of squinting.

The amazing thing is, I use my iPad less and less because the Note II actually satisfies my need for a tablet.

I love the fact I can customize the hell out of my phone without having to jailbreak. Let's face it -- jailbreaking is cool, but every time Apple updates their operating system it can take months upon months until a new jailbreak is available.

Here's the bad news...

I still think, for Apple users, iOS is still better operating system. Now I say this again -- for Apple users it is the better operating system. That is because of the ecosystem that allows all Apple devices to sync together perfectly. Of course, the downside (as I described above) is that you are locked into that ecosystem unless you jailbreak.

With Android, you have to use quite a few third-party apps or slight setting workarounds for your Android device to communicate with your Apple device(s).

I don't think Android is as polished as iOS either. Certainly, apps generally look better on iOS than their Android counterparts. This has something to do with the different set of tools being used for each platform.

One thing I miss with iOS is the banner notifications that alert you of new email, text, missed phone calls, etc. Yes, there are apps on Android that mimic iOS notifications but they just aren't quite as good as the real thing.

Another annoyance is updates to the operating system. Whenever Apple updates iOS it is available to everyone on the same day. Not with Android. Updates are up to the individual carriers. Many Note II users have been waiting for months for the latest Jellybean update that has been available to others. So, don't always expect that you will have the newest version of Jellybean/Kit Kat the same day as everyone else.

Lastly, there has yet to be a single email app that matches the quality you find on iOS. Email apps are somewhat lacking when you compare them on Android. The best email app I have found is Aqua Mail. It is perhaps the most customizable email app of any available.

With all that said, you would think that I am putting down Android. Really, I love the Note II and the experience I have had with it. However, if rumors are true about Apple making a 6" iPhone next year, I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Until then I think that you are going to really love the Note III.

^^ It's obvious you haven't used 4.3 yet. ^^ I would suggest watching the video I posted.
I can't understand why anyone would want junkie icons all over good artworks? No app drawer...
With IOS you have no file system and it's locked up so tight a user can't do anything with it to make it your own.
Polished or not looks do not trump functionality.

No, still on 4.2. Without being able to watch the video at the moment, what is it about 4.3 that addresses the concerns I made?

Since it is noted that your video is dated, I didn't think that it demonstrated the most current Android operating system.

And listen, I knew (based on my experiences with 4.2) not everyone would agree with my assessment of Android.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments regarding iOS being locked up and its limited functionality as far as customizing. However, again, as an Apple user, iOS plays so much better with other devices I own.

I strongly suggest you watch that video and then follow up with parts 2-5. You will notice how iOS just caught up with Android 2.2 and MANY other things. I'm driving all day today and took advantage of watching. It just reassured me I'm on the best OS possible right now, and have been. Funny since my first smartphone was an iPhone...

Very good thread with good questions, but always bad answers.

First of all, there will never be agreement from either the Android or iOS camp as to which platform is better.

People will argue the topic forever.

Really, it comes down to personal needs and experiences.

...and realize, there will be more bias replies to a particular platform pending on which website you ask the question on.

In the end, I think we can all agree that both platforms have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Agreed, both are excellent platforms, but to be honest I'm pretty bored with iOS, update here and there, but nothing ever "new". Anyways, I love the size of the Note, was able to play with Note 2 last year. At the time, I had already upgraded to iP5 with a new contract so I was stuck with it. What really has me wanting to switch over is this new iOS 7 update, not only do I hate it, this is the first time I've EVER felt forced to upgrade, since the update I've had nothing but problems, my phone is pretty much useless. Half of my calls don't come through, when they do it breaks up so bad the calls drop. Can we say slooowwwww, so slow even the internet disconnects me, server not responding always. I've never had these problems until one week before update. It seems to me the software is not compatible with any of the older phones only new. How else would they get you to upgrade. Let's cause problems on older devices this way they have no choice. This is how I'm feeling right now. It's just frustrating.

I love my Android phone but I can see the merits of the iOS operating system. It is very polished. I have not used Android 4.3 yet but I am looking forward to updating my GS3 to 4.2.2 in the near future (fingers crossed) :-)

I've been researching as much as I can about this os platform. Until I have it in my hand I'll know more. I just hope it's not to complicated because I'm not a techie type person.

I think I'll love it too. Just the ability to do whatever I want to it and make it my own is good enough for me
