Swype and the thunderbolt

All that does is direct me to swype settings to turn on autospacing, which is already on.

Did you download swype beta directly from their website or did u use some other swype file? I heard some people using evo4g's swype file and they got it to work that way.

Edit: Looks like its a problem on HTC's end... On the swype forum boards:
wow sooooo sorry I downloaded the Evo one. So sorry my apologies.

doesn't swype collect your personal data when using this? I know Swype says they do not but the app says it does i tried the 4shared.com one. Can anybody explain to me if they don't but app says it does, should i use it??

They don't collect data. The keyboard read your data input, that's all. It shares it with the asp you're typing in, that's all.

I think what they are referring to when they say its collecting data, is they will distribute information on sites visited, search engine information entered and things to that nature. Personal information such as passwords, etc. would not fall under this category.

Its more of a "testing" or advertising thing for Swype and its partners that back the program. Someone somewhere is building a graph/chart on most frequently viewed sites, popular search engine topics, might even be to improve the word prediction part of Swype. Looking for things they may have missed.

"long press/change keyboard/long press/change back to swype" doesn't work for me. I've tried it several times. I'm using the Swype beta on my HTC Thunderbolt and auto-spacing doesn't work. Does anyone know if this is going to be fixed soon by Swype?

Its beta, so expect bugs.. All you can do is follow the change log/forum at the Swype beta site.

Yes only for the apps your going to use it in. Like your browser asks or a site asks, "Save your password or login information" its saved on your device, locally. Trust me that would be against privacy agreements/laws that the application developers have to stick by. They cannot save or redistribute your personal passwords or credit card information or save them on example, Swype's servers...

Alright thanks for the info. So should i get it from the link i got from Swype or get a .apk from 4shared.com???

I don't know about anyone else, but Swype suddenly started working perfectly for me. I had the Beta, but started using ChompSMS and now it's doing auto-spacing and auto-caps.

Hope that helps! :D

Works great

It's working exactly like the SWYPE on the Samsung Epic I was using from Sprint - while waiting for the TB to arrive (and a damn long wait that was!!). Auto-Spacing/Caps etc. all the way they should be.

I followed the instructions using the link from the Evo SWYPE below - downloaded the file to my computer, transferred to TB SD-card, used Astro ("Install Via Astro File Manager"), followed the instructions, and rebooted.

You have to be sure to "Long-press" on any text input field. It will being up a text input query, where you select SWYPE as your keyboard. Once selected, it will stay as SWYPE until you change it back.

I'm loving this phone...

Also, I had to remember to change "save file as" to "all files", then change the extension to ".apk" so it doesn't download as a zip file. Astro would not install it as a zip file (which is how it downloaded automatically).

Thanks everyone for all the great advice on this forum...

I just followed the steps mentioned on this thread and it worked after the 2nd attempt to install. Once done, i was good to go. After just getting my very first touchscreen phone yesterday and getting acustomed to texting on it, I find swype to be more a pain in the ass then a quick solution when texting. For the most part. LOL
