I can not get the Beta version of Swype installed on the S3. (non-rooted) Is the only way to get the Beta version that came out today on the S3 is to root it? I have downloaded the Beta installer but it won't install the 1.3 version. I go to the Swype version in the input and setting and hit update but it says there is no update available. Am I missing something here?

if you have the most up to date firmware, then swype is already pre-installed on your phone, and you CAN NOT install the beta... In order to do that you'd have to root the phone, go through a uninstall of the default OEM swype keyboard on your phone by going through the system partition, then, installing the beta... Probably too much work, keep the OEM version of swype as you have it already... The beta is for others that don't have swype on their phones, or, again, those that root and mess with things...

I'm currently running Swype 1.3.1.9274 on my S3 (updated today) running the latest firmware on ICS.

ive got the swype beta. awesome keyboard. it gives the notification to update in the settings menu. but when i click to update, it gets stuck at downloading. oh well.

Bassmig....did you download the new Swype Beta 1.3 on a non-rooted phone?

Same issue...Installer gives me message about not being able to install new version. If I go thru settings, it says "Downloading Update" forever. Frustrating.

I had a warning that there was an update and it seemed to hang for a while and then eventually it actually updated. My phone is stock samsung ICS. I have the i747m (AT&T, Bell, Telus, Rogers) version on Telus mobility running build IMM76D.I747MVLALH1.

I had a friend with the same problem. She turned off cell data and then it worked over WiFi. Might be worth a try. FWIW, I got a notification of the update and it ran flawlessly.
