Swype for Eris

PhonoRoboto - that's because you need to restart your phone after you install it. Has a few bugs once you install but after you restart the phone it is fixed. And you can turn predictive type back on after you reboot, it wont do anything to the system. And just for reference, no I did not install it from his link I just googled for one before he posted it.

I actually installed it on my eris yesterday hasn't crashed on me yet. I never restarted the phone :-) Must be an oddity. Works great, I'm liking it so far, I just have to break my habit of touch typing....

Well, thats good....I used it without restarting my phone at first too and it didn't crash, I just read that it helps to restart after getting it. Just curious though, do you guys turn your Eris off at night while you sleep? I turn mine off every night before I go to bed and plug it in...hopefully thats not a bad thing!

i really dislike it... i installed it at about 9 this morning and now at about 5:20 i can't stand it and already removed it. It didn't learn any words... it doesn't adjust to me at all... and to be honest i can type probably 2 or 3 times faster with the regular htc sense keyboard... Only because it seems as though Swype would more often than not get entire words wrong... everytime i tried to type "didn't" it would try and suggest "right" "fight" words like that and i even went super slow to see if i was doing it wrong... i went directly over the letters "D-I-D-N-T" and it didn't work and then suddenly one time it worked...

This is a great concept but they still have a lot of work to do in my opinion... The look of the keyboard, and the size and layout are great though!!!

Well first of all you have to remember that this is the beta version...and they originally didn't make this for our phone...i really don't know how they got it to work. Anyways if you didn't already, try the tutorial...you really need to to get the basics down in there to work it.

mine would foreclose alot. I have restarted the phone so i will keep my fingers crossed.

it does that because "didnt" isn't a word...it is actually "didn't". to do that you have to go over "D-I-D-N-'-T" and it will work every time.

Mine does didn't fine by swyping DIDNT
Just did it 5 times, didn't have to learn it either.
My only gripe is I don't know how to close/minimize the keyboard if I want to scroll in a page.. (ie.. adding contacts)

as far as this being a legit app:

Ok, I tried & couldn't get it to go. I figured I'd bypass the PC and just download it into my Eris - which seemed to go fine. I installed it, seemingly fine. But couldn't open or run it.

So - stupid question time. How do I download it to the SD card? When I mount my phone to the PC I don't see a directory or location for SD Card. Is it under another name? Can I download it to a different location? I tried that and couldn't install it at all - it had no file information so I guess it was an incomplete download. Maybe I'm just missing something simple....

Djcalvin - To minimize the keyboard just press the back button on your phone. That seems to be the only way to get it down.

o2bnclemson - Depends what kind of computer you have. Im not sure about MAC's but on Windows PC, when you plug in your phone and mount it a box should pop up asking you what you want to do with this device. You scroll to the bottom and select explore. Or, if it doesn't pop up, you can go to start - my computer -and it should be under "devices with removable storage" (after you mount the phone, of course). Once you see it listed in "devices with removable storage", just double click it and that will show what is on your SD card. Then, just copy and paste the file into there. If you don't know what device to choose, open up My computer, connect and mount the phone, and watch what appears in that section. And just so you know, it will not be called "SD card" or anything like that. It will probably be called "Removable Disk" or something.

I just downloaded it (and am using it now) its really cool.it does force close a lot though even though I reset the phone

Ok - got it. Just had to read ALL of the directions! Very cool app. Looking forward to messing around with it this weekend. What's the going rate for it when it's out of Beta?

Unknown, as it was never intended for sale. They are trying to get it OEM in new handsets.

did you disable the audio under settings?

yes i did... i reset it again and it is running smoother, but it is obviously not fully developed.

In my brief experience with Swype, I've noticed that it force closes sometimes when I try to hold a key to get a character and almost always if I hold the backspace key down. I've not had any other force closes - it's working great! Loving it so far!
