OK. So maybe someone can provide me instructions or a link to instructions on the best way to sync all of my contacts to my Gmail account.

I want to be able to add a contact in my phone, and sync it with my Gmail. And then vice versa, add a new contact in my email and have it update my phone.

I am going to do a fresh install tonight of the operating system and want to start everything synced correctly.

Thanks.

Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Add google account

Select "Sync Contacts" (usually done by default)

Manage your contacts via google.com / contacts

I reset my phone to factory settings tonight to start fresh. I have all my contacts backed up to gmail and on a vcf file on my computer.

The problem is...when I add a new contact on my phone..it is not added to my gmail contacts on my computer. I have sync on as well.. Any fix?

I had the same problem when I was transferring info to my Note 5 - I hadn't been real careful setting up sync on my Note 2. After several unsuccessful tries, I discovered that you need to save new contacts to your Google (gmail) account, rather than Device or some other account. When you add a new contact, the first screen will have a drop-down selection in the upper left corner of the screen - it will list Device and perhaps some other accounts, and should include your Gmail account. Select the Gmail account and the contact should save to that account and sync properly. Hope that helps!
