sync facebook pictures with contacts

Is there a way to sync facebook pictures with my phone contacts WITHOUT importing all of my facebook friends into my phone contacts as well? I know you can hide the facebook contacts that i don't need but when I text someone it will show all of my facebook contacts which is annoying. thanks

Welcome to the forum. I know that, if you run the Facebook app on your phone and press News Feed and then press on your far left capacitive button on your phone. Select settings. Down at the bottom, press Sync Contacts. On the next screen you have 3 choices, one of which is Sync with existing contacts (option 2). If you select that, it will only sync friends you already have in your contact list. If that doesn't quite cover it, you can try SyncMyPix on the market. I haven't used it, so I don't know if you can filter contacts by groups or not, but it might be worth a try. Otherwise, I'd suggest going into the Facebook forum and asking for help there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I only sync my Facebook friends that I already have in my contacts (option 2).

I have done that also but when I send a text to someone and look for their contacts in the recipient part, all of my facebook contacts show up there.

Have you unlinked facebook from your phone? If you go into settings, accounts and sync and press on facebook, you can remove it there. That will stop your phone from syncing with facebook contacts. Try that and let me know if it works.

So this is what I did, I synced facebook with only existing contacts and it shows all the pictures for my contacts but when I search for someone to text in the recipient box it shows all my facebook contacts. I unlinked facebook from syncing with my contacts, the pictures stayed but also the facebook contacts in the recipient box. The only way to not have my facebook contacts in the recipient box is to remove the facebook account totally but then I will also lose the pictures synced from facebook.

I think you need to start over because your address book is already filled with all your FB contacts. If you completely delete your FB account (settings> accts & sync> Facebook> Remove Account), it will clear out the FB contacts on your phone.

Now you can do one of two things.

1) Go to the market and download and install the FB app. When you run it, select "don't sync with contacts". This way, you'll be running FB, getting all notifications, etc. but it won't be linked to your contacts. You'll need to manually add in the FB contacts you want.

2) If you do want FB linked to your phone, then add your FB account under settings "Accounts and Sync" Then just make sure you select to "link with existing contacts". That way, when Facebook Syncs, it will only sync with contacts you've added to your phone.

With either method, you won't have a gazillion contacts show up when you're trying to text or email, unless you have a gazillion FB contacts in your address book

Personally, I switched to option 1 above.

Currently I'm using option 1. I've tried option 2 but it still shows all my facebook contacts. Not in my phonebook but when I go into the messaging app>add recipient, thats where it shows all the facebook contacts.

I would just like the "sync to existing contacts only" to actually do what it does but instead it adds all of the contacts to the "add recipient list." Oh well, maybe facebook will fix it later on.
