Syncing Things under Google Account - Contact Sync Failing, all else OK

Title says it all. Today I discovered that under Settings...Accounts....Google everything is syncing OK and up to date except for Contacts. It says it hasn't synced since some time in APril 2015. Everything else under Google is synced and up to date. When I try to sync contacts it fails every time...the little icon is the circular arrow with an exdclamation point and at the bottom of the page that same icon says there is a sync problem and it will be back shortly. April isn't shortly. SInce this *is* Verizon the Backup Assistant backup of contacts *is* working but I'd rather depend on Google. Anyone have any ideas why this situation would exist? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried going into your contacts, to settings and 'Sync Now' from there?

Yes, that triggers the Verizon Backup Assistant backup of contacts rather than Google.

Not sure if this will work for you as it did for me but my old contact sync problem sounds similar to what is happening with you. I downloaded an app called 'Contacts Sync Fix' (by Nikolay R....just in case there are similar apps), and I only had to run it one time. It fixed the sync problem and I never had a problem after that. There is a Pro Version, which I didn't apparently need so I didn't bother with it, but the app is free.

when you add new contacts go to phone contact press the arrow and choose google account
