syncing to computer problems

currently i'm having issues with syncing my samsung s4 to my computer(imac). i have done this before, but now when i plug my phone into my computer i get nothing? no device is being recognized?

Did you installed the USB drivers from Samsung.com ??

yes, i did and still no luck, even went to the online chat and all they kept telling me was to make sure i have the original cable that came with the phone. and my phone still cant connect to my computer. it doesnt recognize it as a hardware device?
