Samsung Galaxy Note 2, 4.4.2

When I long hold the home button to close the recent apps, the system UI stops. When this happens it goes back to the lock screen and sometimes resets my background. I have researched this and have cleared the cache but nothing has solved the problem.

Same problem here - and plenty of reports elsewhere on same over the last few days, so that suggests a recent software update the issue.

Seems the culprit is a Google app update - of all things. Its probably not something that's gonna require major time or nerdiness to resolve.

Go to Settings > Applications > Downloaded > Google App. Tap on it and when it opens, tap on Uninstall Updates. It will do so (or perhaps ask if you wish to return to factory settings - and that's OK). Close out of Settings. Restart - if just for the heck of it.

Long-press the Home button functionality should be restored.

Now go to Play Store and Search for Google App. Tap on it for description page. Tap the three tiny buttons on the top right and uncheck Auto-update. This will prevent the faulty app from reinstalling (causing the problem again), until this bug can be resolved.

Hope this helps. Worked for me on Samsung 7 Lite - still running 4.2.2!
