System Update to Galaxy J5

I just got an OTS update, to 5.1.1, for my Samsung Galaxy J5 and wonder if that is a prelude to Samsung releasing 6.0 for my phone or if it is an indication that I am stuck with Lollipop. I know there are downloads for the 6.0 ROM but I am not willing to take a chance on bricking my phone. I know that there are rumors that 6.0 is coming for the J5 but nothing firm. Anybody have an idea on this? It's my first system update for any Android phone so I have no previous experience.

By the way, the update went very smoothly. 148MB file took about 7 minutes over 2Mb WiFi. No problems.

It's not an indication of either, it's an indication that your carrier released 5.1.1 for your phone.

"I know there are downloads for the 6.0 ROM" If there were downloads for 6.0 for your phone on your carrier, you would have gotten them (unless they released 5.1.1 because it's necessary for a 6.0 update, in which case you'll get 6.0 tomorrow if you tell the phone to update[Settings/About device/Software update]). If you flash a 6.0 ROM for your phone for a different carrier, you'll most likely have a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I can only hope that 6.0 will become available. Rumors abound but nothing definitive. I read that 5.1.1 fixed some issues so that's probably all that it was about. I will definitely NOT be trying to install anything that doesn't come from Samsung by way of my carrier. Not going to chance bricking the phone. Plus, all of the methods I have read require using Samsung Kies software. I use Linux and that software is not available for Linux. Don't know why as Android is basically a Linux variant. One would think that a Linux version of Kies would be pretty straight forward. But then most people use Windows and Mac. Too small of a market for Linux I guess.
