System Updates after root

I just rooted my 8.4 and downloaded Titanium bu, sd fix, and a couple other root apps. Love what root allows for. Is it true that if I get a system update push from Samsung I will lose root? How can I prevent that from occurring if that is indeed true? Also, any recommendations on a custom ROM for this particular tablet?

My rooted tablet won't even connect to their update servers since the device is modified so no worries there.
