T-Mobile $30 Prepaid New Activation Sim Tip

Can I get a tmobile number for the time being when I activate my sim with the $30 prepaid plan and in 2 months, when my verzion contract ends, port said verizon number thus getting rid or my original tmobile number? Basically does tmobile allow you to port a number at anytime even after you have been using one of their numbers for a little while?

In theory yes. In practice, I'm not sure. They should be able to do it, but prepaid customer service isn't known for their helpfulness. Prepaid has a rule that you can only change your number once every 6 months; whether that applies to porting in a new number I don't know. T-Mobile's forums would be a good place to check for that info.

Like I mentioned, the easy way to do this is to activate a T-Mobile prepaid SIM to check it out, pay for a month and toss that SIM. If you like it, when your Verizon sentence is up, just activate another T-Mobile SIM and port the Verizon number then. Saves you about $2 and makes the process entirely painless.

Hi,

Like many of you, I'm going with the $30 plan for the Nexus 4. I do not have a T-Mobile account so I ordered a prepaid micro SIM from...

Sim Card Activation Kit For Prepaid Phone or Unlocked iPhone | T-Mobil

Has anyone tried to buy a micro sim card in the past few days? They have showed as out of stock when you try to pay, then you can select to purchase anyway and have it shipped when they are in stock. I keep getting an "error with my card" when I select this option. I have tried a few cards with the same result. (And yes... I have plenty of room on the card so it is not that.)

I have received the Tmo SIM card and was wondering if I can set it up now w/o porting my existing phone number, evaluate the Tmo service for a few weeks and then if it works for me port my number over. Seems like I should be able to, but does anyone know if I can port the number a few weeks from now once I'm sure I want to go with Tmo? Was also going to do same with ST and decide between the two. Thanks!

You certainly can; that's exactly what I did. I evaluated T-Mobile's service in my area for about 3 months (carried 2 phones), then after I decided to go ahead with it I ported my Virgin Mobile mobile number to my T-Mobile account. Customer service was very helpful. It took 2+ days for the port to go through, but eventually it did. They'll ask for your account username & password of the carrier you're porting from.

I know this has pretty much been solved, but should it be helpful, I'm pasting the complete transcript I had with T-Mobile customer service on how to get this to work. I'll put the quickie links at top:

Ahniwa : My LG Nexus 4 is arriving in the mail today. How can I get it set up with the $30 "web only" prepaid plan with 100 minutes and unlimited data and texting?
Ahniwa : Hi James, how are you?
!James P: Hello Ahniwa. Thank you for choosing T-Mobile Live Chat Support, my name is James, and for your reference my Rep ID is 145-1362. I'll be glad to check on how you can avail of that plan.
!James P: And I'm doing just great, thanks so much for asking. How about you?
Ahniwa : I'm doing good, though I had a frustrating experience in the T-Mobile store earlier. Hoping you can be more helpful. :)
!James P: No worries, I'll be making your concern my top priority. Basically, first of all you'll need a SIM card, to activate strictly on our website. Do you have that right now?
Ahniwa : I don't have one. That's why I was in the T-Mobile store, but he told me I couldn't buy an unactivated SIM. So I'm trying to figure out the right order to do things.
!James P: Well, you could always place an order online. It may take a few days before you receive the phone, but the plan you want is a promotional one, and you need to access this link to activate the SIM.Unsupported Browser
!James P: The plan is also available at WalMart stores.
Ahniwa : Okay, so my phone gets here today. The only two options I have are to order online or to go to Walmart once I have the phone? Is that right?
!James P: receive the SIM rather.
!James P: That's correct. And all you have to do is just follow the prompts to activate. You must be real proud about the new phone. The Nexus 4 sure is popular.
Ahniwa : I'm pretty excited about it.
Ahniwa : Alright, so say I want to order online ... can you send me a link to the product I need to get?
!James P: I believe the Nexus 4 uses a Micro SIM?
Ahniwa : Yeah.
!James P: Here you go. Prepaid Phones | Pay as You Go Prepaid Cell Phones | T-Mobile
!James P: This one, to be exact. Sim Card Activation Kit For Prepaid Phone or Unlocked iPhone | T-Mobil
Ahniwa : Okay, so I order that. Once it arrives, I go to this URL and follow the steps: Unsupported Browser -- Is that right?
!James P: You got it. And please be advised it needs to be on the website, or else, you get a different plan. You can always chat in for assistance if you need any.
Ahniwa : " it needs to be on the website" -- You mean, I need to go through the activation ON the website, right?
!James P: Exactly.

Its so much easier to go into a tmo store. I had a regular size SIM from my Nexus S they just gave me a micro sim and switched everything over to the new sim. I was in and out in 5 minutes

I'm having problems activating. The auto pay calendar, which seems to be required, isn't showing.

EDIT: I got it working by calling tmobile directly. It was an issue with my verizon number not porting.

I'm having this issue too. I closed down my browser though and can't get back to that step. I can't use the activation code anymore in the pamphlet. Did they have to do it themselves to fix it?

What's the big deal with entering the Nexus 4 IMEI? I'm using T-Mobile and when I activated my account I put in my IMEI so it could recognize my device, its prepaid it won't lock your device. There was no activation fee and it only cost 14.95 plus 30 to start up my account. 14.95 because I didn't want to wait for a Sim to ship.

I went from Verizon unlimited to T-Mobile $50 unlimited plan. Took my V number and total cost $50. So far T-Mobile is great and my speeds seem to be better with the N-4 on T than it was on my Galaxy Nexus was on 4G.

If you go for $50 unlimited plan from tmobile, I would suggest the $50 simple mobile instead since they are using tmobile network and have 5gb 4G speed date included!
The tmob one only come with 100mb of 4G speed data, after 100mb will be down to 2G /3G only which is slow!

Simple mobile is as good as Tmobile so far IMO....

The speed is technically the same & no different because I also have the $30 unlimited web plan with tmobile so I compared both, they are the same~~

Hi!!!! I did the same steps, although how did you get to pay when you did? I tried by doing the process all over again and now it says that all the numbers are invalid cause the already been activated! Im lost

I believe you have to start paying ("funding") the account on activation online. Have credit card or other payment methods ready.

Plan still available, but as before "$30/mo. plan is only available for devices purchased from Walmart or devices activated on T-Mobile.com."

(Oddly, doesn't say "4G LTE," just 4G. :-\ ) Just a wording discrepancy on the site. $30 plan still activates online, and shows LTE on my Nexus 5.

Otherwise, the lowest prepaid plan is $40 for unlimited talk, text, and 3 GB of 4G LTE data per month.

I'm switching to dual-phone, dual-carrier service soon, will use one of the SIM kits that I still have from one of their free promotions. Currently, SIM kits are $3.99 with code SIMDEAL.
