T-Mobile Note 3: Do NOT download the Android 4.4 KitKat update!

I had the issue with random data connection loss. Went to t-mobile store and they changed APN. After that no issues.

Do you mind posting your APN settings? I suffer from this issue everyday and need a fix asap! Thanks!

In case you were after more than just the Main APN name, here is screenshots of all the settings within the fast.t-mobile.com itself. Just click on the fast.t-mobile.com and enter the edit access point settings screen and see if the individual settings are correct. Also, the Multimedia message port shows Not set (you can't see it in the first screenshot).

Mine has been set to this APN since I got the phone and I'm still having data connection issues. My hope is that a fix comes soon.

I just updated 2 days ago and have yet to have any of the issues here. I only had mine for a week before updating so that might have helped it seems best to do it right out the box. Google tried to take over my phone after the update but after deleting or disabling all their stuff its back to normal I do not use any G services besides the navigation. Cant say anything improved but my battery life is the same and no wifi issues.

Too late, I already updated and I regret it!! My phone now, freezes, lags, shuts off.

Hello,

Would this issue be on Samsung or google? I have read that Samsung should have tested all of their devices using Google's KitKat OS to see if there were any bugs or issues. However where do the carriers come into play with this whole issue? Because certains carriers get the updates first before others. Is that because they have contracts with Google/Samsung? How would you feel if you bought a car that had major mechanical/safety flaws but the dealers/manufacturers went ahead and sold it to the general public. This is the only reason why Apple is superior in my opinion. Why doesn't Samsung start making its own OS one day?

Ultimately the carrier is responsible for continuing to push a known phone killer. I am one of the lucky ones not having update issues but I do not doubt the outcry coming from all corners of the community. They have to know so why keep pushing it?

Ugghh my phone just automaticaly decided to update itself to KitKat 4.4.2. Now I have to wait and see how it performs. I will update later, however I am not very optimistic things will fare well for me. Google bring 4.4.3 already!!!!

I have been running KitKat for awhile now and have mixed experiences with it early on. I have looked into the issues that I had and have fixed them since they originally occurred. First, I am running the N9005 version, not a carrier branded Note 3 and it is rooted.

The issue with writing to the external sd-card was the first issue I came across. At first I thought is was an application specific problem as I only noticed the issue with certain applications like ES File Explorer and Titanium Backup. The paid version of root Explorer never had any problems and I could copy, move, create folders, etc. while using that program, but not ES File Explorer. After further research I came across a patch to fix the issue, extsdcardfix-flashable.zip. After applying, access was available to the sd-card as before.

I did have the sudden battery drain, but after I had the OS running for weeks. After more research, this happens because of a bug in the camera software. There were some stopgap fixes I found for this, but the ultimate fix for me was to completely wipe the cache and perform a factory reset. The phone has been performing fine since without the sudden and inexplicable drain.

The same things happened to my girlfriend's Note 3 and I did the same things that I did on mine and both are functioning as expected. We both easily get 2 days of heavy use (including movies, music, group play). There have been times where I got three and a half days with moderate use, so the battery draining issue seems to have gone away. If it were to come back, I know a factory reset will work. We both back up our phones regularly with Clockworkmod, so we don't worry about losing information or getting settings back to the way we want them. We also leverage dropbox for pictures and google for contacts so we feel pretty covered about out important items.

I hear more issues with users that have carrier backed phones than the international version. For some of these problems, I do believe the carrier software may be causing some of the issues. I know some users don't want to root their phones, but sometimes it is the only way to get the most out of the device and keep it from having the problems you might be experiencing. I know this is an issue from the carrier side and they don't want you to root the phone. It might be best to just buy the phone outright and not even have the carrier software intermingled with the device. Keep in mind, they alter the core OS as well and those modifications could lead to some of your issues.

I can't lie, I have had my share of issues, but I root my phone, keep a copy of the previous image I had before an upgrade to another OS and perform consistent backups on my device. I always feel I can go to a point in time to when the phone had no issues and restore it to known good working state.

Hope this helps...

I registered with android central just so I can leave a comment for this thread. This is how outraged I am with Kitkat upgrade. I have sony xperia Z on att network. Very happy with Sony great phone. Made me a believer in Sony Mobil products. Had a great battery life.(before kit Kat that is) I'm working in construction, long hours and I always listen to podcasts, before the upgrade my batery would last all-day (that's with 9-10 hours of podcast through Bluetooth headset) now my batery drains even if I don't touch my phone. I'm writing this being plugged into power source. And I just got notification from my phone saying that power source insufficient. Battery draining faster than charging. And I know everything is fine with the power source. This is how much kitkat suck. Will be down grading.

You have a different phone, different manufacturer, and different carrier. This was not a good place to post your message. I'd suggest you backup your data and do a factory reset and cache wipe. But find the appropriate place to post next time.

Hello there... well it seems we have a situation with kitkat and the SD. Quite the same problems here with the M8 !! it is completely useless. I tried everything i could and in the state of the art.. well.... so this machine i got here has only 16 GB instead of 144 GB.. no more. What a pity and a waste of time trying to solve a thing that should be okay in the first time .... Glooogle² they should bring up a really good update that would make it cool again. Anyway... Kitkat is a chocolate bar overall !! not a software and If the very expected 4.5. version fails to solve this issue by re enabling the external write on SD and plus by debugging the codecs and all bugs around the SD reading that blocks songs and films and delete them after beboot and well! weird thing.. it might become a problem more important like... everything goes to the cloud you know... yea I know why. AL:cool: After Kitkat comes MARS :)

The problem is solved by rooting your device with Towel Root and installing an app in the Pay Store called SDFix: Kit Kat. The Towel root roots your device with the press of a button instantly, doesn't even require a reboot. The other app also fixes the SD issue with the press of a button and then both apps can be removed because the SG card fix remains forever even after the app is removed. You can remove the root any time and you will still have the SD card functionality achieved by root preserved.

For Note 3 users I updated to Kit Kat yesterday and I can confirm Towel Root DOES NOT trip Knox and so your warranty is preserved and it does not prevent you from updating to a new official firmware update.

Now I am enjoying Kit Kat with all the SD functionality of the 4.3 and still have my warranty. Plus with root I was able to remove a bunch of those bloatware Android apps like Google Plus.

Towel root (works on any device running 4.3 or 4.4) and is 100% safe (it also rooted my Amazon Fire TV:

I think it made me lose the air jump on web pages. You know at first it didn't come on the note 3, then with the update, we got it. Today I noticed it's gone again. Works fine everywhere else it's supposed to.

You probably just need to restart your phone. The update didn't take away that feature. Try turning the feature off. Restart and clear the cache. Then turn it back on.

my phone downloaded the 4.4.2 version and I have yet to update it, so don't update it? especially if you use wifi for phone? For pc you always want the latest update for security and you always want the latest version, not for smartphone? I am new to this smartphone thing

my current version is 4.3 I got the phone in Oct last year.

it says tmobile had downloaded 4.4.2, but the kitkat 4.4.2 is from google android right? it's not tmobile software
