The only problem is that, if you want to then get out of Beta, it will wipe your phone - regardless of the fact that you have the non-Beta version - because you're in the Beta program.

Sorry - you're 100% wrong here. Everyone that has done it has not had their phone wiped. Myself included.
Isn't Oreo still a beta? I have not seen anything that says it is officially released into the wild.
So why are you pointing at T-mobile?
Not that I want to take their side. But for as often as I complain about them, I don't see how you can have an issue with them on the Oreo update......... Yet
Oreo was announced, not released. Google is the one doing the update not T-mo.
Google has released the beta, but has not released the full rom, replacing 7.2.(whatever).
Once they do, you will get an OTA. T-mo has nothing to do with this. If they did, it would be months away and when it was released they would have screwed up most of the features rendering the phone almost useless.
That's why I roll Pixel... Keeps T-mo out of the picture

Why is it in 'carrier testing' then? Surely they must have something to do with it.
Maybe the carrier testing isn't to make sure it will work, but rather letting all of their employees "test it" before they decide to send it out? You know, to make sure they can all spell "Google"
