T Mobile Use

Thanks, I think I'll run out for lunch and get one. Just called T-mo and had the poor woman repeat to me three times that I will not lose my $5 wearables plan if I use the gear S SIM card in an ATT wearable.

For those people using a tmobile sim in an at&t U2LTE, does inserting the tmobile sim create the Access Point Names (apn) under the Advanced setting under the Cellular setting? I don't have a sim in mine, but my apn says ATT Phone. Wondering how it gets changed to tmobile...as none of the fields seem editable, like they can be on an Android phone...

SIM cards come with APN settings. Don't need to worry.
ok, great. I'm used to bring your own devices, and 5 years ago, you manually had to enter everything.

So it seems that folks in this thread are using a tmobile sim in the at&t version, but I thought you said not possible?

1. It seems AT&T version is unlocked.
2. Most who tried, either using a phone SIM or already has grandfathered in wearable SIM (Gear S).
That's what I was thinking. Seems you're saying those who tried used a phone sim or a grandfathered sim, and a new wearable tmobile sim obtained today, might not work...or work, but be converted to a phone plan...

A phone plan(with voice, text and date) costs much more than wearable plan (only $5/mo for existing customers). That's why T-Mobile is cracking down on it. From some old posts, you may likely to encounter some kind of MM error code if you use new wearable plan on non-T-Mobile Gear S.

yeah, I definitely get the abuse crackdown. And I guess if they don't know the imei, they assume it is a phone, and they obviously only keep track of imei that they sell....

they are selling a standalone $15 wearable plan, but I reckon it is going to need to be for a device they sell, too....

How did you all make the T-mo sim work in the ATT Urbane? I am new to Android Wear and find it a bit difficult to figure out.

And yes, I ran out and bought one. There was an ATT sim already in it :(

IIRC, the $15 plan is the same one but for those don't have a phone plan with T-Mobile already. If you already have a phone plan with T-mo, you only need to pay $5/mo.

If the report is correct, the watch is unlocked. You take the SIM extraction tool found in the watch box to open the back cover of the watch. Take out the AT&T SIM and put in your T-Mobile SIM. That's it. Have you never switched SIM card on a phone before? It's the beauty of the GSM carrier (like AT&T and T-Mobile).

I use my sim card from my Gear S that I bought from T-Mobile last year. I'm still paying for my Gear S but the clip on the backside is broke so charging it is a hit or miss. So I stop using the Gear S. I figured since I'm still paying for the service why not just use the sim card.

Yes, very familiar with the physical process of switching sims in regular phones. What I meant was how did others manage to make any Tmo sim work in it? I don't get the usual error message requesting an unlock code (which is what my Gear S or any other locked phone I've ever had asked for) , the phone tries to dial out and then goes back to the friggin watchface. I tried both T-mo sims in it. Or sometimes it tells me the BT audio is not connected.

Wonder if they manged to lock the device before I bought it... Just: how?!

Did anyone else have problems making a T-mo card work?

Did you check the status on the watch to make sure you have T-mobile service on it when you put the sim card in? Check SIM status on your watch and make sure it network says T-Mobile. You should also check to see if there's a signal strength, and make sure Service state reads In service.

I did call T-mobile asking about this and he told me that I should be able to switch my Gear S sim card into the watch and it should work. He said as far as he knows, T-Mobile has no issue with people using their sim card from their Gear S on any other watches.

So: i can confirm that the device is not sim locked. My phone's Tmo sim ended up working fine in it (just took a while to register, I guess).
My wearables Tmo sim however, seems to no longer work. It did not work in the LG WULTE2, and when inserted back in the Gear S, It was no longer workng either. I called tech support and was told that there are several issues going on with Tmo at the moment:

- gear S devices cannot register on the network at the moment
-a cell tower near me is out of order and being fixed, but may take 48 hrs: it may be affecting the bands my watches support
-non Gear S devices, regardless of carrier version, cannot use the Gear S wearables SIM

I told them that the last point can't be, since others managed to use the Gear S wearables sim successfully in their LG WULTE2. I guess I'll try to get a new sim card later today, since my current one shows "out of service" and tech support does not know what caused it.

They also mentioned that T-mo encourages BYOD and do not block non-T-mo devices, only non-wearables from using a wearables plan.

What a mess...

The wearables sim shows the following when inserted:
network: (none), Service state: out of services, network state: disconnected.... But it does show my phone number, so it does see my sim card.

It was said that if you ever insert your wearable sim to a normal phone, it will be detected and disabled automatically.

in the same boat, spoke to 3 different techs yesterday then a "manager" he created a ticket for the "engineers". basically it worked for a day and a half and my dumbass was checking out the cellular settings and accidentally turned of the cellular radio, once i turned it back on, i could never get reconnected to t-mobile again.. my phone sim works fine in it...

So, it looks like issue#2 in my original list is correct. Good luck to all you T-mo users. Gear S users found out this *issue* for couple months now.

I have been using an ATT Gear S with a Tmo wearables sim for the past year, switching cellular service on and off daily with narry an issue. This is super strange.
That same card is now deactivated, because they had me go and get a new sim card, and this new one is even less functional.
I can't even test it in my Gear S, because they say they have been having issues with Gear watches registering on their network for days :(

I was just on the phone with tech support again, trying to troubleshoot, with zero success.
