Tab S2 and S pen

I'm used to having an S pen on my tablet (used a galaxy note 10.1 since 2013! but the time has come for a switch).

I was just wondering if it's worth it getting a Tab S2 and buying an S pen separately or if I should just get a tab A instead.

Reviews for S2 suggests that it's perfect to replace the note 10.1 (minus the battery life and S pen) but getting a Tab A might save some money although it seems to have less upgrades/functions compared to this model.

Any thoughts & opinions on this would be really helpful (&appreciated!) :)

I suspect the "S" pen is designed for S devices and Note phones. I would check the Samsung site before taking the plunge. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I have a Tab S2 (early Christmas gift from my wife,) and have tried my Note 4 stylus/S pen on it. No result at all. Bottom line? No, it will not work.

Thanks for your response. Would you still recommend a Tab S2 or Tab A or wait for a few months for Samsung to release a new tablet?

As I posted above, I got the Tab S2 for Christmas (early.) I find it to be very capable in all of it's capacity. I purchased a stylus from Amazon and have no problems with it. I have purchased a stylus for each of my devices, so I have been able to handle it for quite a while. I despise finger prints. I also have two Nexus 7s (Wi-Fi and an LTE.) I like my Tab S2, but it fills a spot, it doesn't really replace any other devices I own. They all work well in their capacities.

I can't really tell you to choose a device as I'm sure my needs are different from yours. I can only say that the Tab S2 performs flawlessly in it's capacity. A very nice tablet.

I have the note 5 and the pen doesn't work on the tab s2, not sure if it's my glass screen protector, I didn't think to test it before I applied the protector.

It isn't designed for other devices. As I said, my Note 4 pen doesn't interact with my Tab S2. I tried it right out of the box. I considered that I could set up my tablet with my S Pen. No. Not happening.

No it will not. Devices with S Pen functionality have a special digital layer over the screen to read the pen. A device will come with an S Pen if it works with one.
Right. That's what I was telling the OP above. I wasn't absolutely sure, but I couldn't see that it would be otherwise workable.

I don't have a problem with a simple rubber tip stylus. It works very well. The spen isn't made to use with the S2 tablet. Won't work. I use my fingers too. I really like this tablet and have only had for one day.

I use a YooMee retractable fibermesh capacitive touchscreen stylus (2-pack for $10.99 from Amazon) on both my Nexus 7 2013 and my new Tab S2. I have found that its fibermesh tip works more smoothly on my screens than the rubber-tipped one I had at first; used it for a whole year now, and the tip is still as good as new. It came in a 2-pack, but I still haven't needed to use the second stylus yet. I really like that it has a pocket clip as well as its being retractable when not in use. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=YooMee+Retractable+Two-Pack+Black+%26+White+Fibermesh+Capacitive+Touchscreen+Stylus+%282+Pens%29

An S Pen will NOT work with an S2 tablet. There is a special mesh screen behind the LCD on tablets that support S Pens and the S2 doesn't have it.
