Hi all, just picked up the new tab s3 but I hear a constant hissing from one of the speakers. It's like the sound you hear from old tapes.

Anyone know what that is? Has anyone heard something like that before? Is there a simple fix? Should I return it before I get to involved with this one?

Thanks all

Return it if you haven't already. I got my tab S3 on launch day and it had the hiss. I heard it on my OnePlus 3 (albeit way quieter) so I figured it was an Android issue and the quad speaker setup amplified it.

There must be a defective batch of speakers or something because the replacement has the same level of hiss as my OnePlus 3 does (that is, you can't notice it unless you put it right next to your ear). It's night and day and no longer driving me insane.

Actually you are right mine has the hiss too. You really have to put your ear next to the speaker.
It is mostly noticeable on the lower right speaker (if u keep the tablet so the home button is down) and very slightly from the upper left.
The hissing sound doesn't seem to be affected by any sound or volume settings so it makes me wonder if it actually comes from the speakers

Same problem here. Upper left speaker has an annoying hissing noise like distortion. Not always but is not normal. I will make an exchange.

Has anyone talked to Samsung tech support?
This might not really be a defect but just noisy circuitry. Inductors tend to make noises. As an example iphone 7 is notorious for this.
I noticed that the noise disappeared when headphones are connected, but IMHO this could really mean anything.

Had the sound on the one I bought (black) and also a popping sound whenever I turn the volume up, went and got it exchanged, they only had silver and the volume is a lot higher and no hissing or popping sounds

I have the hiss in my silver device.
I restarted in safe mode to check if this is caused by some running app on the background. First I thought that the hiss disappeared, but then I noticed that if I ro something - like start an app, change the volume or type on the onscreen keyboard, the hiss appears and a sec latter turns off.

I restarted in normal mode and this behavior carried over. Now the sound is normally not present and appears only in certain situation and then shuts down.

Can you check if your new tablet does the same? Just put the speaker close to your ear and press the volume down button (I think it is better idea than volume up :)). The actual volume doesn't really matter, the device might as well be muted. In my case the noise appears for a sec or two and shuts down.

Tried and zero issues here, yes I did notice, a few times, before I switched it out that the sound would be very random. Since I exchanged it though I haven't noticed any of the issues with the previous one and I have also noticed better battery life.

Maybe a possible battery drain associated with the sound?

This is awesome.

I kept playing with it and my new finding is that if I turn off Touch Sound in Sounds and Vibration options then the noise it is not present. Apparently the tablet is not trying to make sound every time the screen is touched.
However if I press the off button the tablet makes a click upon locking and the noise appears for a sec

Had the same issue with mine which i got on release day. Contacted Samsung support and also took it into my local Samsung experience store, but as I had pre ordered it online, they were not able to exchange it in Store. Apparently Samsung Online and the Samsung stores in the UK are two separate companies with separate stock inventories.

Sorted a replacement online, 21 days lead time for a new one though! Still 8 days to go before new one arrives, will keep my fingers crossed the issue isn't present on that one also.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but picked up a nice deal on a Tab S3 and I'm experiencing this. There's a hissing sound coming from the speakers when audio is being played even on zero volume. Did you guys find a solution for this?

I believe it was a production issue and hardware fault. I contacted Samsung support and they arranged for my unit to be picked up. It was then replaced with a completely new unit about 3 weeks later (due to stock shortages at the time).

Hey, thanks for your answer. I take it that the replacement has been working fine since then? :)

You're welcome, and yes, its been completely fine since :)

Would you say the sound from the speakers is comparable to HTC BoomSound audio (with wired headphones, especially) in terms of richness and fullness? I ask because since Samsung acquired Harman, which AKG is part of, there are rumors out there that say either the next S-phone or Note will come with stereo speakers from AKG. I haven't experienced what that sounds like, but I have experienced BoomSound in store, and I love it. Great audio might sway me back to Samsung from my current Nexus 6P. Feedback is appreciated. ☺️

The Tab S3 is the first Samsung device to have speakers tuned by AKG. And it's got quad speakers.

How were you able to get samsung to replace your tablet? I sent mine in for service and after 3 weeks it's been returned and still has a hiss. They now want me to send it back again "if I want to proceed"

Ridiculous
