Tab s3 slowing down

My Tab S3 really slowed down after the October update when my reserved memory dropped from 704 mgs to 376 mgs. Graphics really 'stutter', browser pages load slow (wifi).

My Husband hasn't installed the October update yet (postponed) & his reserved memory is still at 704 mgs. His Tab S3 doesn't lag at all.

I can't say that's the entire problem, but it's more than likely a contributing factor.

@milleniumdroid mentioned this in a few posts. He was the first to report the difference after the update I believe.

I went to Best Buy to check a new Tab S3 that had not had received updates & the reserved memory was the same as my Husbands.

Huh, interesting. I did the update too and my reserved memory is 376 as well. Maybe too much a coincidence to not be considered.

Would a factory reset let you avoid the update, I wonder

What I'm ignorant about, is HOW to check it.

Settings
Device Maintenance
Memory

That will show you the current memory. I don't know if there is a way to tell what the reserved memory was before the update. That's why I checked my Husbands device & a new device from Best Buy. Neither device had been updated. And as I mentioned previously, @milleniumdroid commented on this in a few posts.

Also, I don't think resetting the device would help. The OS restores to the last version installed, I believe, so in my case it would be the December 2018 security patch version & my memory was reduced after the October 2018 security patch installed.

This info is based on the US wifi versions.

My S3 is running fine. Not out of the box fast but fast enough.
I only have WiFi slowness but that's another thing. (My provider).

I have the same problem. I did a factory reset. No improvements. My solution? Buy an S4. I love it!

The thing is why would Samsung make a device, and charge you a arm, and leg for it, and totally disregard it. We have not had a security update in months. Isn't there a policy that they would guarantee updates for 2-3 years? I am not going to buy another tablet from them. They should give us the upgrade for free since they are ignoring this tablet.

I just got a security uodate the other day.

I'm fairly certain it was posted somewhere that Samsung revealed quarterly pushes for security updates. We might see Pie with the next one (August).

I've been having similar problems for a while. I tried a factory reset, didn't help. Finally I booted into safe mode and the lag was gone. I only had a couple of disabled (third-party) apps. One of them was an app called SmartThings, which I believe is a Samsung app. I uninstalled it and rebooted the tablet. Since then the lag is gone, the tab feels like normal again.

Question for you. Do you use only play store apps, or have you enabled allow from unknown sources and use side loaded apps?

Sorry, I just discovered your post from ages ago, but still wanted to respond anyway. I use both Play Store apps as well as those from "unknown sources", if that helps. I bought my Tab S3 when it was first released, and I use it every day. (heavy daily use due to my being mostly bedridden from a permanent spinal injury) I am still getting a solid 12-13 hours/daily of continuous internet/streaming video. I absolutely LOVE this tablet, and if it ever croaks I would jump at the opportunity to buy another Samsung, such as the awesome new Tab S6. Only Samsung for me, moving forward. They are well worth the higher price tag, that's for sure!

*bump*

Yesterday went to update my tab and locked it, then unlocked to check progress and the whole thing was **** slow. Had to stop the updates... Grrr...

I had a similar problem with a 14 month old S3. After spending a couple months trying to fix it (e.g. reboots, updates, soft resets, hard resets, cache cleaning, etc.) I finally took it into my local Samsung Store. After doing a full firmware update the problem was still there. Samsung advised that it was a memory module problem and it would cost about the same to fix it as it would to purchase a brand new S3. I wrote to Samsung asking for a warranty accommodation, but since I was past the 12 month mark Samsung advised that there was nothing that they were prepared to do to help. That wasn't the response that I expected on the purchase of a premium product like the S3, but it appears that Samsung places little value on ongoing customer support. Hopefully your tablet has a different issue, but if it is suffering from the same memory module problem, don't expect much in the way of assistance from Samsung if the product is more than 12 months old.

That was sort of a temporary issue on mine, and it is faster now after the October update came late for me. Mine was purchased in July 2017, so it is a little over 2.5 years old. Still decent though but definitely aging.

I hope this helps someone. But after having the same problem with a brand new Galaxy Tab S3 I found the solution. I went to settings, device care, memory, I saw that One Drive was using memory. I don't use One Drive so I disabled it in the app drawer. My lag is completely gone since I did that. Apparently it was doing something in the background that was slowing down the tablet. I then also disabled all of the unnecessary bloatware that was pre-installed in my tablet. I know this seems like common sense, and I usually do that on new devices, but it definitely was the culprit in my case. My tablet is now lag free.
