Tablet or bigger phone?

Since my last tablet died a few months ago, I was thinking about buying a new one, but I'll soon need a new phone too. Do you think it would be better to buy a tablet and a regular phone (5"-5.2"), or just buy a phone with a bigger screen (5.5"<)? On one hand, a tablet can give me (far) more screen real estate, which is great for watching movies/TV shows/videos, reading a book or quickly fixing a Word document. On the other hand, buying just a bigger phone would probably be cheaper. What are some other pros and cons?

Comes down to budget and convenience. Personally I own both and both are large, a Pixel XL and a 12 inch Galaxy Note Pro. Like you I have a great appreciation for the larger screen size for media consumption.

That said I would think going for a good large size phone and then a budget tablet would be a good compromise if one sees themselves mostly carrying the phone. That way one gets the best performance and better experience the majority of the time with the primary device.

I own a decent sized phone (S7 Edge, 5.5inches) and a budget tablet I've had for a few years (Tab 4 7.0). I use my phone mostly, but I prefer watching videos or reading books/comics on the tablet. But that's the only use I have for it. As stated by the above poster, unless you have a specific need for a higher powered tablet, a good phone plus a budget tablet like a Kindle Fire is the way to go.

In my opinion, having a bigger phone would probably be more convenient if you're the kind of person who likes to "travel light" and simplify things with only a couple of devices. Plus, if you only buy the phablet, you can justify spending a bit more on something like, say, the Note 8; because it will serve as two devices for you, so to speak.

Let us know what you decide!

I like all my devices having large displays.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note8 and an iPad Air 2 LTE.

I would suggest getting a large screen phone that is at a good price e.g. a LG G6, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, 1st Gen Google Pixel XL or a LG V20 and then getting a budget tablet.

In some countries Samsung for example has deals where you get the phone and a budget tablet, maybe check your local carriers and see what they offer.
