Hi, this is my first post but I have been reading android central for a while.

I have been considering buying an android tablet for some time now. I live in the UK and the galaxy tab 10.1 gets released very soon and I am extremely tempted.

The only thing that is stoping me buying it is the ever-present better device looming in the future. Should I wait to see what amazon's new tablet is like, what about new tablets based on the quad-core kal-el.

Opinons please!

It's the same advice I give to people wondering if they should buy a new phone now or wait for that future monster phone.

There will always be something better coming out and it will drive you nuts. That's just how tech works today. You need to get what YOU want when you want it. The new Galaxy Tab looks nice, and if it is the perfect one for you after playing with it you should get it.

The amazon tablet could be awesome, but nobody knows. Yes quad core tablets are coming, but should you wait for six cores? Twelve cores?? Get what suits you.

If you aren't blown away by the Galaxy Tab, then I would check out Amazon's, just due to the affordability factor. But there is no right answer to this.

There is no way or to avoid having a better device come up every few month. I think the most important thing is that you are happy with what you got. Another thing that is very helpful is if you can test drive the device you want. Right now for my money, I have my sights on either the Asus Transformer or Acer's Iconia. Both of those have great specs. The Xoom is up there also as one of the best right now but like I said, just go out and test drive.

Well, to my mind the only thing that you need to worry about is (no offense to the android people) iPad 3 because no one knows for sure what this baby has in it for you. Otherwise, Samsung tab 10.1 is pretty advanced and you won't regret your decision if you are androider at heart.

Hello guys,
I like galaxy tag 10.1 but the newton ring issue is a pita.
I like the xoom but it's too heavy and thick and the screen cannot be compared to the galaxy one.
I like the transformer but seems cheap and there isn't a 3G version yet. It will be launched here in Italy before the end of the week. We'll see.
Frankly speaking the think I wouldn't worry at all is the ipad3 with the chains that ios brings. Even being more mature than honeycomb, the potential the android can unleash is unreachable by the apple counterpart at the moment.

Personally, I'm waiting for the Gal Tab 8.9. I find iPad and 10" Android tabs to be too unwieldy. 7" in OK, but I have a Nexus S 4G w/ 4" screen and it's good for me. Will the 8.9 be THE one for me? I don't know, but I'm hoping that it is. I've heard Aug release, so waiting another month won't kill me plus it gives more time for rumors on the AMZN tabs to become more reality.

I jut got the Moto Xoom after waiting to see what comes out, might be the first Honeycomb but well built and I like the size and that Staples $100.00 coupon helped. That's why they are making different size tablets because none of us are the same.

Thanks for the opinons.

I think I am going to wait to see what the new ipad that is supposedly being released in september has to offer. If it is has some new amazing features (I don't think it will) I will get that. If not I will either get the galaxy tab or the asus transformer. That will also give some time for more amazon tab rumours to emerge :)

No one has mentioned the Toshiba Thrive. Comments?

The Thrive Spec wise is a great choice also but i think with the software issues it has been having , its going to hurt them... The think with tablets is what are you going to use it for? I think that the Manufacturers was thinking that everyone would want on right away. If the Economy wasn't in the state its , maybe sales would be better. Pricing is also a factor. If they would lower it to an affordable price and still be able to make a profit, I think that will boost more sales.

The Eee Pad Slide is a good looking tablet too.. This is something that interest me because its shows the tablets first step into taking out the laptop IMO . Onscreen keyboards are fine but sliding up the screen to a physical one is great. I know you can attach one to the transform or G tab 10.1 but this one is the best and easier to carry around...

I have a Thrive and although I do have the sleep issue, word from Toshiba is that a fix will be pushed out next week. Aside from that, it's a great tablet. It is bigger and heavier, but it also has full size SD card, HDMI, and USB, as well as mini USB. It has removable battery, which is nice in theory, but unless the battery is just garbage, I won't need to replace it before I've moved on to another machine, so it really wasn't a factor for me. The ability to connect to all of my other devices was. (I do think since the back cover can be changed, Toshiba should develop a back that incorporates a kickstand - others have mentioned that on Tosh's forum and it's been noted by the admin, who says he sent it to marketing.)

Anyway, as to the original question, I completely get it, although I'm not one to be chasing every new development. I usually know when I see the device I want and am going to want to keep. But the incremental difference between Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 processors definitely has my attention and it feels like Tegra 3 (Kal El) could be what I go with long term.

So I got myself a Costco membership and bought the Thrive through them. The cash return period is 90 days, as opposed to the 14 - 30 days you get elsewhere. That gives me until October. By that time, I'm hoping I'll have a better idea when Kal El tabs will be out and I'll make the decision about whether to hang onto the Thrive or let it go.

My opinion
Xoom: Pretty thick, I own one, love it out of all the tabs bc the thickness is nice
Thrive: Don't like the webcam being in that white piece and don't like the webcam being on the side (
Galaxy Tab 10.1: No SD card, USB, and super thin and light...I feel like light thin things breaks easier (protection plans ftw
" " 8.9: I like 10.1's better...
iPad 2: Really really really really dislike iDevices and Macs....actually Apple products (period)
HP Touchpad: Seems nice
Transformer: Seems nice too but got my Xoom instead...don't know about Asus

What form factor are you looking at?

If you want a 10.1" tablet, the Xoom has the more timely updates and an SD card slot. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the nicest screen and is lightest. At 8.9" you have the G-Slate and the upcoming Galaxy Tab 8.9. At 7" there's the Flyer, as well as the upcoming Iconia A100, Eee Pad MeMO, and Galaxy Tab 2. Also, don't forget the Amazon tablets that should arrive before the end of the year.

These aren't the only options in there respective classes, but they are the top picks. I for one have the Xoom as a 10.1" tablet, and I am waiting on a good 7" tablet.

I am looking for a 10.1" tablet.

The closer the UK release date for the galaxy tab 10.1 comes the closer I am to just buying it. I know that by christmas there will some really nice kal-el tablets but I don't think I can wait that long! The galaxy tab looks like a great tablet and I am hoping it will be money well spent.

I am in agreement with NoSpin's comment regarding this question. Get what suits you and if you are willing to wait then by all means do it. You'll never be in a position where you'll end up with a device that has pushed technology to its limit and it can't be outdone (at least not yet).

The Galaxy line has been good so I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 10.1. With that said, I would suggest a Galaxy Tab. :)

Yeah, I'm happy with my transformer. I love the keyboard design, so it's very convenient to deal with documents.

I think after the recent news that Kal-el tablets could be arriving as early as October means I am going to have to wait! I think the next Asus transformer running on a quad core processor would be sweet, especially if it has HDMI out, usb ect. If the samsung tab 10.1 had a usb port I may have been tempted to buy it now rather than waiting.
