Take the Verizon "Share Everything" Challenge!

It's clear that talk and text have little value to Verizon. And that's the way the industry has been headed to.

Data bandwidth is clearly more important and this new plan emphasizes that.

Exactly.

Remember, our usage is likely not the same as an average Verizon customer.

Spot on. We are mostly complaining on these forums, but believe it or not, MANY customers have been gegging for this. This works out better for newer smart phone customers (who don't have unlimited anyway) that have more than a couple of lines and each use less than a gb per months. That's over 80% of their clients base. In 2010 the average Verizon smartphone user averaged 400mb's per month. I'm sure that's up by now, but still less than a gig. Most 3-4 person plans can share 4 gigs. And keep in mind that if your dad only uses 250 mb's then you can use 1.75 gb's (if for example you shared 4 gb between 4 lines). It works for many situations.
All of that being said, I'd be SCREWED if I had to switch.....LOL

How dare you speak so kindly about these new plans. lol.

If I was on these plans, I'd be closely monitoring my usage and would probably tweaking the bucket month to month.

Yeah....I have 1 tbolt with unlimited and 2 dumbphones. Our entire family and most friends are on Verizon and my kid ONLY texts so we share 700 minutes between 3 lines. I would pay much more for much less on the new plans.

I guess my plan is different from people. On my 1400 family plan, the main line doesnt have the 10 dollar access fee.

With the way of programs allowing you to text over data rather than using the phone line, I don't see why anyone with a smartphone would ever pay for texting.

Current Plan:

Main line dumb phone 1400 min: 89.99
Smart phone: 30.00 (got 9.99 credit for moving to smartphone during a promotion)
2nd Smart phone: 40.00
2 dumb phones one with 5 dollar texting plan: 25.00
Total: 185

New plan
3 Dumbphones: 90
2 Smart phone: 80
4 gb: 70
Total: 240

And thats with two lines losing unlimited data.

These plans dont benefit those who dont have unlimited calling and texting.

I have a smart phone and 3 basic phones. My current bill with unlimited text and data and 2000 minutes of talk. my current bill is about $179 a month. Verizon is saying with 10gb of data, unlimited text and talk, I would pay about $210 a month plus taxes and fees. HOW THE HELL IS THIS SAVING ME MONEY!!!!!!
Every time I upgrade to a new phone (which I have not done for over a yr now), my bill pretty much doubles or increases between 50% and 80%. As soon as this contract is over with, I plan on looking elsewhere for cell service. I am finally done defending Verizon for the prices.

How much data are you using now?

Yeah.....if he only uses 1-2 gb then you could knock $50 off of that, but Verizon is pushing the 10 gb plans, regardless of what you use. If you go to their little calculator tool on the info page for these new plans, it will almost always calculate it at 10 gb whether you put 6 phones in there, or just one.

Im rather surpised at my outcome. Note that by reducing the "plan" from $100/month to $40/month per phone, they reduced the discounts they give out too.

I wrote this to my wife.

Current Plan

$100 1400 shared minutes and unlimited text (15% comes off this price only and not included in this sheet)
$20 Line Access ($10 each)
$60 Data ($30 each) unlimited
In the last 6 months we currently use about 4-6 gigs a month of data
_______________________________________
TOTAL COST = $180/MONTH (not counting taxes/insurance/discounts)

New Plan

$80 Smartphone charge for 2 phones (going to assume the 15% only comes off one phone)
-includes unlimited talk and text
$100 10 gigs of data shared
FREE Tethering
__________________________
TOTAL COST = $180/MONTH (not counting taxes/insurance/discounts)

We will lose our ability to upgrade our phones on the current plan if we don?t switch.

We gain the ability to tether using our data plan on the new plan. Our discount of $16.50 (15% off 109.99) would probably only be $6 (15% off $40)

So the current plan looks like this when its time for us to renew:

$180 Month for whole plan
$17 surcharges/taxes/fees
-$16.50 15% discount
__________________________
Subtotal $180.50
$50 ($600 phones bought without discount. Spread over 24 months) times two phones
__________________________
Total = $230.50/month
= $2766/year

I know you don?t actually factor in paying for the new phone into the monthly bill but I had to factor the phone costs in there somehow.

The new plan looks like this if we switch: (some speculation)

$180 Month for whole plan
$17 surcharges/taxes/fees
-$6 15% discount
Subtotal $191.00
$25 ($300 phones bought with subsidized pricing. Spread over 24 months) times two phones
Total = $216.00/month
= $2592/year

I don't know if Verizon thinks the public is stupid or what but everyone knows simple math.

I have 2 smart phones with 4GB of data on each and im paying $60 total for data. With the new shared plan i will be spending an additional $10 every month (4GB=$70) or go to a lower GB plan! Now how is that saving money?

Way to go Verizon....not only were you a crap company to work for but now a crap service provider.

im not endorsing verizon at all, but you cant compare just data with this plan. you have to compare everything, for me, my current plan talk/text cost 100/month for two phones where on the new plan it only costs me 80 for talk/text.

I assumed this plan was made to help families with multiple phones, but from people I know personally, its going to cost them more. This just doesn't make sense to me.

going with the 10gb option, I break even from my current plan and gain tethering. I lose my unlimited, but we use about 5gb a month leaving 5gb still unused. So techniquely this plan saves me money

If I left AT&T, I would be paying more for Verizon's data sharing plan for 2 smart phones. Sorry, unlimited minutes and texts are not included here.

This plan is only good if tablets and other devices would not get charged per month. You think that's going to get people to buy more cell radio tablets? Nope

just saw someone today that will be happy when the 28th comes out
5 lines unlimited talk and text - 300
3 lines at 5gb monthly usage - 150
2 lines at 2gb monthly usage - 60
2 of which have hotspot - 40
pre tax total - $550
and didn't get to use his 15% discount on an unlimited plan

new plan 20 gb shared - 150
5 smartphones - 200
now all have hotspot
pre tax total - 350

now gets his discount 15% off of 150

200 dollar savings aint to shabby

all this seems to do is further encourage people to friend together and group up their plans
if 5 people all with the $60 450 T&T plan with 30 dollar data paying 450 pre tax collectively joined up and hell went big and got 30gigs of data they would still be 50 bucks cheaper and have unlimited messaging, unlimited texting and mobile hotspot. hell for that each of them could add a tablet

the plans aren't great but people don't seem to realize the potential and as much as losing your unlimted data sucks its better than it was at 2gb for 30 bucks per phone

And that is great for the multiple line users, but now I ask; what about those single line users with the unlimited plan?

Single line users with a current unlimited data plan don't have to do anything.

My plan stays pretty much the same dollar wise.
I am on the unlimited plan and will be as long as vzw offers it.
I dont plan to renew/upgrade any more phones tho vzw,after the S3.
I have already preordered it.
Since I havent ever gone over 4gb with unlimited I dont expect I would on the share plan either .
When I opt to chose the 4gb on data with the share plan as mentioned above my plan stays within a few dollars of what I am currently paying.
But I hope the unlimited data plan last at least a couple years longer.:)

Current Plan -

Any Mobile Talk & Text Share 700 = $85
Smartphone = $30+$10 = $40
Dumbphone x 4 = $40
Total = $165

ShareEverything Plan -

10 GB Plan = $100
Smartphone = $40
Dumbphone x 4 = $120
Total = $260

Would cost me all most $100 more per month, even if I dropped down to the $50 1GB Plan, would still be paying all most $50 more per month.......

btw ppl, adding a tablet to your plan is a complete waste of $10. Most phones today have the ability to become a wifi hotspot, just have your tablet to search for your phone's wifi hotspot and walla! you have internet without spending more money.

But then you wouldn't need to be around your phone.

Data bandwidth is clearly more important and this new plan emphasizes that.

You hit the big issue, in the past many of these family plans all purchased large amounts of minutes. Now everyone is cutting back their minutes. When I left AT&T I had tons of roll over minutes that were worthless because we never came close to exceeding our minutes. You notice that AT&T never talks about roll over because it is considered of no value.

The bottom line is that there is no free lunch if the wireless companies can't make their profit by selling families tons of unused minutes, or get people to pay for tethering , they will make it elsewhere by charging more for lines - thus no $9.95 lines. Charging more for data, and then you can use it like you want - if you are willing to pay for it.

Verizon knows they have the best network in the USA and are willing to increase their fees even if it means loosing a few customers. Verizon was the only company to add customers last quarter. The good news is that if you don't like Verizon's new plans you have options 3 other national wireless companies and in most regions several smaller regional companies.

Personally I will pay more since my phone needs first and foremost a phone and I can trust and use. I have used two other companies and one was ok but the other was so hit and miss in places that it became a liability to me. I also like fast and reliable data, but have never felt the need to stream music or video 24x7.

I don't want to drive my "Corvette" at 5 mph or less because it is stuck in traffic resulting from someone let several million other Corvettes on the road all trying to travel at 120+mph. If everyone travels around 65-75 mph everyone can generally all go a long at high way speeds.
