Taking bets on the level of bloat

those that really get their panties in a bunch over bloatware

Again... Sitting here waiting for the phone to ship a couple of weeks from now. Idle conjecture about the amount of bloat does not a bunched panty make.

If you don't like it, ROM it, or don't buy it.....simple.

Yes. Yes. Always the childish response whenever someone has anything to say other than, "OMG! It's perfect in every way!!!"

The reality is, some of us have corporate contracts with significant price reductions tieing us to Verizon. Verizon likes to bloat their phones, making it somewhat more complicated than just saying "don't buy it." Yeah, a person could get a GN or an iphone, unless that person doesn't want to get either of those phones.

Anyway, I agree that bloat isn't the big issue that it has been. But it is still an issue. If for no other reason than the fact that gadget nerds like us don't like to see a bunch of junk apps loaded onto our newly purchased phones. Same way everyboady always complains about the junk apps loaded onto their new laptops, even though they can be uninstalled.

DITTO

Bloat will take up 30mb to 120mb of space, with about 75mb being the average. Insignificant unless the G1.

Factor in ICS allows disabling of a lot of stock apps, even more so.

Its not even the space issue (even though on my dinc its getting to that point). Im just tired of companies thinking that im so stupid that i will eventually buy or use thier product if i see it everyday.

Why do i have to be reminded to update skype, facebook, slacker and vz navigator everyday. i have never used them so why should i update them? ....and why should i have to choose a option to use the free and installed navigation on my phone instead of vzw's vz navigator? its just annoying.

The new droid 4 comes with 3 or 4 nfl apps including madden 2012 pre-installed and they cant be removed.... now i am a huge football fan, but i dont need 3 apps worth of info, and if i did i can pick and choose what i want.

IM A BIG BOY LET ME DECIDE

ICE CREAM SANDWICH LETS YOU DECIDE!

Everyone chill the hell out over bloatware. It's a total non-issue now with Ice Cream Sandwich. You just disable it. Period. It never tries to update again, it never runs again, it never shows it's ugly face again until you reenable it.

then.... "i love ics!!!!"..... And .... "now i love you!!!!!"

I will probably root mine soon after getting it, like I have all my previous phones so bloatware a non issue anyhoo

It looks like Verizon was forced to accept Samsung's terms for the phone hardware and release, but they are free to mess with the software. They already removed the 50GB free dropbox. Typical Verizon will fill this phone with crap I bet, and also delay any OTA updates as long as possible.

I honestly don't mind bloatware on a subsidized phone, but if i pay cash, i don't want to see it

i see your rational but dont really agree, vzw is making money off of the service charges every month and not the individual phone sale. Just make anything they put on able to be erased....(even if ics allows you to disable )

I agree. We shouldn't be "forced" into having to disable those apps. We are paying lots of money already. I can see if these were totally free phones, but they are not.

I asked last year if I paid full price could I get a phone w/o any of their bloatware, of cours I knew the answer was going to be no. But I figured what the hell. "oh there isn't that much bloatware on our phones". Really 21 pieces of junk that I cannot remove is not considered "that much"? Remember City ID? That app was always running, even if not subscribed. Of course then you would get the friendly reminder "hey you can see where this phone number is from" BFD!

I hope they can be truly disabled with ICS, I have no experience with ICS, it would just be nice to get rid of them.

All I mean is like FM radio vs satellite radio

If I pay for satellite radio, I better not hear commercials, but they still have commercials on some channels on satellite which makes no sense.

When you pay 200-299 for a $600+ phone, I'm sorry but no you really can't be mad if they put things on it.

No one is forcing anyone to pay for these phones but everyone thinks they're "entitled" to have them.

Kinda like occupy wall street wanting bigger government, then get mad when a cop (more government) tazes them in the nuts for spitting on them.

Oops, sorry for the rant

It was only a matter of time for this post .... And here is the response .... Unlike satellite radio, where if I don't want to hear a commercial I change the channel. I am stuck on my current phone with all kinds of extra junk that I can't just " change the channel on".
And the " entitlement " argument has been played to death. Put all the stuff you want on the phone, but allow me to erase it.
And this is not like ows ... If you break the law you get punished ....
I am entering into a contract with VZW that states " if you give me a DISCOUNT (not free ) on a handset I will pay you (in my case )$200 a month for 24 months , AND if I don't I will pay a penalty.
As you see VZW is not giving me anything, we co-exist together.
Watch the movie idiocracy, it is the smartest movie ever made, and it is our fate if we keep allowing bloat.

Well thanks for the heads up on the movie, but i see idiocracy everyday. People cant afford to take their kids to the doctor, but can afford to have an iphone. They are behind on rent, water and electricity every month but have cable or satellite running strong. As far as the rest, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

You realize that's a subsidized cost, right? You only pay that much because you also pay for the rest of the phone during the life of your contract, and then some. In then end you pay a lot more than the actual cost of the phone.

Anyway, when I buy a PC or laptop, the first thing I do is remove all the bloat and adware. I don't mind having the bloat on the phone, just let me remove it. And disabling is not the same as removing it; it's still there.

only in America are our poor and homeless fat and on cell phones.

I laughed today when i was looking at my email receipt from Verizon. About halfway down the list of plan features they have, "Verizon Apps $0."

Lucky me!

Laugh while you can, because as soon as Verizon figures out how to put a positive spin on it and convince people 90% of us need, want and use bloat and the other 10% are evil abusers they will be charging for that too.
