Hey Guys,

I have a rooted HTC Thunderbolt with GB 2.11.605.2. I am trying to use CWM to restore a backup data file I made before I changed the OS. However, once I go to Restore Data in the
CWM menu it tells me that there is no data.img file found.

The data file within the SD card is labeled data.ext3.tar, so I assume this is why it's not working. I have tried multiple versions of CWM but it is giving me the same response each time. I am unsure if there is anything that can be done to either..

A) Convert the TAR to an IMG file.
B) Extract the TAR file and use the extracted files to somehow remedy the issue.

If anyone has any ideas or help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you do a backup in CWR, it should create a directory with several files in it.

data.ext3.tar is ONE of the files that should be there. There should also be files labeled:

cache.ext3.tar, system.ext3.tar, boot.img, recovery.img, etc....

If the only file you have is data.ext3.tar, then you are missing some things, unfortunately. Renaming that file or extracting anything from it won't help you.

One other thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to restore a backup with the same version of CWR that you used to create it. If you upgrade CWR, and then try to restore an older backup, you'll most likely get errors as well.

It is for this reason I typically won't upgrade CWR unless I'm sure my OS is fairly stable and I won't be needing to restore.
