They must not as I just tried everything you mentioned and none of it worked. They do have a nice feature where you touch where ever you want the camera to focus on the screen and the camera will focus on that spot and snap a picture.

Oh man, that sucks! The improvement from gb to Ics was pretty big for the camera, the upgrade in jb is just as major. The camera app is really good now for vanilla android.
